Row2Recovery Team Trident poised to take on 3,000-mile row in Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge

Jordan Beecher and Captain Jon Armstrong are making their final preparations on the Canary Island of La Gomera for what will be an epic row of around 3,000 miles across the Atlantic Ocean that starts tomorrow (12th December).

Jon is a serving officer with the Royal Gurkha Rifles, and Blesma Member Jordan was a Corporal in the Parachute Regiment before being injured in Afghanistan in 2012. He stepped on an IED which resulted in him losing his left leg below the knee. The pair have been friends for years having served in Afghanistan together.

In 2015, Jon completed a 1,000-mile Arctic Expedition while Jordan won multiple gold medals in rowing at the inaugural Invictus Games in London in 2014.

Annual Forces Carp Classic raises thousands for charity

The ninth annual Forces Carp Classic has raised thousands of pounds for military charity Blesma, The Limbless Veterans and Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH).
The competition, which took place over a week in October at Abbey Lakes in France, was the best attended to date with around 100 anglers from serving military, veterans and the emergency services taking part.

Nuclear Races partnership with Blesma, The Limbless Veterans goes from strength to strength

Representatives from the team at the Nuclear Races in Kelvedon Hatch, and military charity Blesma’s fundraising team met recently for a cheque presentation. The Nuclear Races donated £5 for every runner that took part in the Blesma Wave raising an excellent £925.

The total amount raised from the 185 Team Blesma runners over the event including the Nuclear Races was an incredible £15,721!

Following from this year’s success, the teams at Nuclear Races and Blesma are proud to announce a continuation into 2018, with the Blesma Wave of the Nuclear Rush weekend starting at 1240hrs on Saturday 19 May 2018.

Opening of the RBLI Invictus and Victory Houses

Defence Secretary Sir Michael Fallon gave a speech and officially opened Victory and Invictus Games Houses built by the Royal British Legion Industries.

Excerpt from Sir Michael Fallon’s speech:

It’s a huge pleasure to be here today to open these magnificent new apartments and meet their future occupants who I look forward to chatting to in a few minute’s time.

I remember standing across the road from here three years ago not long after I’d been appointed Defence Secretary. Back then there was nothing but a barren patch of land and set of ambitious plans.

Blesma, The Limbless Veterans getting ready for ‘the City’s Finest Banquet’

The UK’s leading business security and resilience membership network, CSARN (City Security and Resilience Networks), is hosting a charity banquet to raise money for four charities, including Blesma.

The black-tie event is being held at the Honorable Artillery Company, whose stunning grounds are in the heart of London, on Thursday 21 September starting at 6.15pm.

The banquet itself has been created by renowned Michelin-starred chef Shaun Rankin of Ormer Jersey and Ormer Mayfair. Entertainment will be provided by Kev Orkian – one of the UK’s finest entertainers and an acclaimed comedy pianist.
