West Lothian Disabled Army Veteran takes on 500 mile cycle challenge

TWO disabled veterans are planning to cycle over 500 miles from Edinburgh to Exeter this summer to raise money for the charities who are supporting their recovery.

Laura Ellis, 33, from Blackburn in West Lothian, and Patrick Medhurst-Feeney, 27, of Plymouth, are aiming to raise over £6000 for Help for Heroes and Veterans with Dogs, who have both been helping the veterans to recover from life-changing physical and mental health problems.

Finchale bids farewell to BBC’s Inspector George Gently

You would not expect to find a film set in rural Pity Me, Durham, but that’s exactly what staff and tenants at local charity, Finchale, have seen when they have been coming to work over the past few months.

It’s been lights, camera, action as film producers of the hit BBC series North East crime drama, Inspector George Gently, completely transformed Pity Me based charity, Finchale, turning the former 1940’s Roadhouse and more recently Finchale Training College into a 1970’s Police Station.

Blind veteran from Lancashire to take on fastest zip line in the world for his 90th birthday

A blind veteran from Chorley, Lancashire is planning on celebrating his 90th birthday by traveling down Zip World Velocity in Bethesda, North-West Wales, the fastest zip line in the world, and the longest in Europe.

Bob Hill, currently 89, will be raising money for Blind Veterans UK, the national charity for blind and vision-impaired ex-Service men and women, by flying down the world famous wire, on which pervious participants have been known to travel as fast as 100mph.

The Iraq and Afghanistan Memorial will be unveiled on Thursday 9th March.

The service will commemorate the UK Armed Forces and British citizens who volunteered during these conflicts across government, non-government and charity organisations.

The feedback they’ve received from Army families in Scotland has helped the charity to learn more about Army family life there, and will be used to help shape their upcoming Scotland roadshow in Kinloss on 23 March.
