Aldershot housing development for Veterans moves a step closer

Stoll, the leading provider of supported housing for vulnerable and disabled Veterans, celebrated an important milestone at its latest bespoke housing development for Veterans, with the first roof tile being laid in the presence of Centenary Lodge’s first new resident.

The £10 million development, on schedule to open in Spring 2018, will create 34 much-needed homes in Aldershot for people with support needs who have served in the Armed Forces.

Andrea Howlett, Stoll’s Director of Housing and Development, was joined by Councillor Jacqui Vosper, former Mayor of Rushmoor, to lay the first roof tile.

14th December – Opening of Parry Court by Chief of Defence People – Haig’s first transitional housing development

Haig Housing is pleased to announce that the Chief of Defence People, Lieutenant General Richard E Nugee CVO CBE, will open Parry Court, Haig’s first transitional housing development adjacent to its Morden estate, on the morning of Thursday 14th December 2017.

For the last 100 years Haig Housing Trust has provided low cost, well maintained family homes for Veterans and their families and, latterly, has also bought and adapted homes on a shared equity basis for serving personnel and Veterans with life changing injuries.

Wadworth joins forces with the Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity to brew Carrier Ale

Wadworth, the Devizes-based family brewer and pub operator, has brewed a collaborative Pale Ale with The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity. The beer, which is appropriately named Carrier Ale, celebrates the commissioning of the biggest and most powerful aircraft carrier ever built in Britain, HMS Queen Elizabeth, which will become our flagship aircraft carrier once it is commissioned later this year.

Carrier Ale will be available in exclusive bottles through the Wadworth online shop. For every pint and bottle sold, 5p will be donated to The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity; the principal charity of the Royal Navy which supports sailors, marines and their families for life.

Left Right Left magazine Christmas Armed Forces appeal launched

Left Right Left, the new military memories supplement inside of resettlement magazine, Pathfinder International, has launched a festive campaign for relatives of loved ones away in the Armed Forces over the Christmas period, in which they can send in their messages of good will.

The campaign entitled “Jingle Comms – Festive messages for the Forces” will see Left Right Left ask for family members of serving troops to submit their messages of support for personnel away on operations or detachments over the festive period.

Aardman creates animated Turkey Dash for PayPal’s new Christmas campaign

Eight charities feature in an innovative digital race that encourages people to donate more to good causes this Christmas

PayPal has joined forces with Aardman and Channel 4 for a unique Christmas campaign that will boost donations to eight of the UK’s most loved charities. Turkey Dash will see an elite field of CGI turkeys – one representing each charity – undergo vigorous training powered by online donations from the charities’ supporters, climaxing in a prime time race broadcast on Channel 4 on Friday 15th December.

Queen to commission namesake aircraft carrier in just three weeks, Defence Secretary announces on flight-deck

Her Majesty the Queen will formally commission her namesake aircraft carrier, HMS Queen Elizabeth, into the Royal Navy fleet in just three weeks’ time.

Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson announced the news as he made his first landing onto the deck of the carrier today, while she was at sea sailing around the South Coast of England.

Stars Rally for Veteran Employment

Joanna Lumley, Ray Winstone and Richard Wilson are some of the celebrities starring in three short films promoting military veteran employment.

The celebrities highlight the skills veterans can bring to employers, and some of the barriers that need to be overcome for them to secure new fulfilling careers when they leave the military. Other celebrity appearances include Claire Balding, Hugh Bonneville, ‘Judge’ Rob Rinder, Larry Lamb, Matt Barber, Nick Knowles, Paul Copley. Some of the biggest veteran employers in the UK are also involved, such as BT, Alexander Mann Solutions, Deloitte, Jaguar Land Rover as well as veterans themselves.

OA Supports Poppy Appeal Launch

The Royal British Legion (TRBL) launches its annual Poppy Appeal.

Today (Thursday 26th October 2017) thousands of volunteers will stand on street corners across the UK, asking the public to support the Poppy Appeal. People wear the paper poppies to remember all Service men and women killed in conflict. In 2016, the TRBL raised £146.9 million for the Armed Forces community. This year the TRBL is asking people to #RethinkRemembrance, and recognise the sacrifices made by the military family, past and present.

Fundraising Veteran joins pupils to launch 2017 Scottish Poppy Appeal

A veteran and Poppyscotland beneficiary was joined by primary school pupils at the old Forth crossing today to launch the 2017 Scottish Poppy Appeal.

Corporal Andrew McIntosh, 44, who served for 14 years with the 22nd Cheshire Regiment and saw service in Northern Ireland, Bosnia and The Gulf, is no stranger to doing his bit for the Armed Forces charity after he travelled from John O’Groats to Land’s End on his mobility scooter to raise £3,000.

Andy, from Strathaven, South Lanarkshire, was confined to a mobility scooter after being diagnosed with a very rare and serious vascular condition in 2009. Poppyscotland provided him with an electric-powered vehicle to give him more independence – and Andy was only too keen to show his gratitude.
