Jaguar Land Rover received the Officers’ Association (OA) ward for Excellence in Work Experience Programmes at the BSI Resettlement Awards.

The BSI Resettlement Awards celebrate Service leavers who successfully transition from military to civilian life, as well as the people and organisations that support them. The winners were announced at a recent awards ceremony at the Lowry Hotel Manchester.

London Poppy Day gets underway in bid to raise £1m in one day

2,000 collectors hit the capital’s streets in aid of the Poppy Appeal
London Poppy Day, the largest one-day street collection of its type in Europe was underway today, as 2,000 collectors including uniformed personnel, from the Royal Navy, the Army, and the Royal Air Force, veterans and supporters, hit the streets in a bid to raise £1m for The Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal.

Collections took place at 68 tube stations and mainline stations across the city alongside performances by military bands at ten stations. The familiar voices of beloved Londoners Barbara Windsor and Shane Richie could be heard across the tube network encouraging Londoners to get into the spirit of the day and to give generously.

Partnership with Openreach raises £100k for SSAFA

Since announcing their partnership in 2015, Openreach, Britain’s digital network business, has now raised more than £100,000 for SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity. From taking part in the Big Brew Up to trekking the Icelandic terrain to raise money, the team has got behind the cause whole-heartedly. In addition, Openreach has hired nearly 2,500 veterans since 2011.

Already this year has recruited almost 300 trainee engineers from a Forces background. SSAFA continues to work with Openreach to support the Armed Forces community.

The Royal Observer Corps Benevolent Fund hands over the reins to the RAF Benevolent Fund

The RAF Benevolent Fund is delighted to announce the Royal Observer Corps Benevolent Fund has been taken under its wing and will be absorbed by the RAF’s leading welfare charity.

The merging of the two charities builds on the close partnerships and excellent relationships developed over several years.

A small but significant event to mark the official handover took place Bentley Priory, the spiritual home and headquarters of the Royal Observer Corps from July 1936.

Former ROC veterans eligible for help from the ROC Benevolent Fund will now be supported by the RAF Benevolent Fund and will be entitled to the additional welfare initiatives the Fund provides.

As 10 unique Aston Martin Vanquish S Red Arrows cars roll off the production line, one rolls into Canary Wharf – and you could win it!

The RAF Benevolent Fund launched the exciting raffle to win the limited edition car earlier this year. The car is worth £275,000 and tickets to win it are just £20, with all proceeds going towards the RAF’s leading welfare charity in support of the RAF Family, past and present.

The car will visit Canary Wharf in November as part of the area’s Remembrance Day commemorations this year – sited on Reuters Plaza. Plus members of the Red Arrows team including pilots and Red 1 Sqn Ldr David Montenegro and ‘Blues’ – engineers and other support staff – will be visiting the car on November 1 to help sell tickets.

Five-year-old boy donates birthday money to RAF veterans

Henry Conway, who turns six on 31 October, decided to give his birthday money away after seeing an RAF charity’s advert on television. The RAF Benevolent Fund’s latest TV ad, titled Show Your Pride, features Battle of Britain veteran Stan Hartill, double amputee Stuart Robinson and widow Jacqui Thompson.
Watching with his parents, Leo and Elizabeth, Henry was immediately moved by the ad.

The Armed Forces Para Snowsports Team – Report

The Armed Forces Para Snowsport Team (AFPST) has gone from strength to strength this year, with growth in the foundation teams and truly impressive performances on the world stage. The charity is run by volunteers, and exists to aid the recovery of wounded, injured and sick Service personnel and veterans. It does this through the medium of adaptive Alpine skiing, snowboarding and Nordic skiing, providing a winter sports focus for adaptive athletes to regain their spirit of challenge, competition and achievement.
