Read moreThe Royal British Legion will be hosting a new monthly ‘pop in’ advice centre in partnership with Charnwood Borough Council.
Starting on Thursday 18th May, and continuing on the third Thursday of every month, the new advice centre will be hosted at the Charnwood Borough Council offices on Southfield Road between 10am and 12pm.
The new session at the Council will provide the public with the opportunity to drop in and access support being offered by The Royal British Legion.

The charity has been awarded a grant from the Ministry of Defence Armed Forces Covenant Grants Fund and will deliver the project in association with A&M consultancy Ltd (specialists in employment and career focussed programmes).

Read moreHosted by Combat Stress, the UK’s leading mental health charity for veterans, this year’s Military Mind business symposium, sponsored by Thales focused on the mental health treatment and support available to veterans in employment.
The event, held on 9 May to coincide with Mental Health Awareness Week, was attended by 65 organisations interested in learning about the support they can offer veterans and the benefits employing them can bring.

With pride deterring former servicemen and women from seeking help for alcohol misuse, it’s not until they reach their sixties that they receive treatment. Combat Stress is now calling for more to be done to help veterans recognise the underlying reasons behind drinking problems and to seek help earlier.

Read moreHelena Kennedy Centre for International Justice at Sheffield Hallam University and Addaction are hosting a free symposium on military identity, at which they will be launching the evaluation of Addaction’s ‘Right Turn’ recovery project funded by the Forces in Mind Trust (FiMT).
The ‘Right Turn’ veteran-specific model of support service delivery was developed by Addaction Sheffield, who identified that a number of their service users had been members of the Armed Forces and they often proved difficult to engage in mainstream services.
