Former servicemen and women can face many challenges when they leave the armed forces, and among the toughest of these challenges are reintegrating into civilian life and replicating the sense of purpose and self-worth they experienced while serving. It is these that Walking With The Wounded supports through employment services as well as mental health care.

Many will find new purpose through employment, but volunteering can also be an effective means of meeting new people, reducing social isolation and discovering activities that increase wellbeing and may lead to employment opportunities.

To help those willing to engage in this way, Keep Britain Tidy and Walking With The Wounded have come together to launch LitterForce, a partnership that will work with local people and the wider veteran community to tackle the national scourge of litter.

Our new programme aims to create a national network of veteran volunteers who will work alongside local businesses, councils, schools and individuals, creating group events to clean up and beautify their local communities. This network will utilise their skills acquired in the military. This network of veteran volunteers will also provide a support network for those who have found the transition out of the military challenging, allowing them to gain purpose and self-worth and to help them reintegrate into society.

As Project Officer, you will be integral to the development and success of LitterForce, assisting the Project Manager in the planning, co-ordination and delivery of the project. You will be tasked with managing key stakeholders to deliver community clean ups and other tasks considered of value by local authorities. You will also be required to develop effective pathways to enable ex-military and their families to actively undertake voluntary activities as identified as well as ensuring these volunteers are well supported throughout their journey. As Project Officer, you will be the face of LitterForce and an ambassador for the partnership between Keep Britain Tidy and Walking With The Wounded.

Walking With The Wounded promotes family friendly flexible working opportunities where operational needs allow, is an equal opportunities employer and committed to promoting and protecting the physical and mental health and wellbeing of its staff.
