3rd March – Building Heroes dinner dance

Building Heroes are hosting a dinner dance on Saturday 3rd March at the Langstone Hotel in Hayling Island near Portsmouth and have just a few places remaining. Tickets are £40 and include a 3 course meal, plus entertainment provided by Wayne Woodward, a finalist in Britain’s Got Talent. All proceeds will go towards helping veterans and service leavers retrain for a new career in construction.

Tablets for the Digitally Isolated NFA Beneficiary

Improving wellbeing, social engagement and employment opportunities

The Not Forgotten Association is extending its TV provision programme by offering tablets to a younger cohort of veteran beneficiary who is digitally isolated.

To qualify for a tablet, an individual must be an eligible NFA veteran beneficiary (any former serviceman or woman with a disability or illness).

Prince William officially launches Step Into Health

A first access pathway for ex-servicemen and women seeking a new career with the NHS.

We were very proud to attend the national public launch of Step Into Health on Thursday 18th January with by The Duke of Cambridge.

The Step into Health initiative was developed by Walking With The Wounded in partnership with Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital and the NHS Foundation Trust in 2014. It is supported by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry through the Royal Foundation.

Retired Police Detective from Devon to take on 100km challenge for military charity

A retired Police Detective from Devon is currently training to compete in a 100km walk from London to Brighton for Blind Veterans UK, the national charity for blind and vision-impaired ex-Service men and women.

David Bailey, 56 and from Totnes, came across the event after his girlfriend forwarded him a link on Facebook. He recalls: “I love walking and try to do it as much as I can.

Isle of Man Post Office introduces stamps to mark RAF100

As a tribute to all who have served in the Royal Air Force in the last century, Isle of Man Post Office has commissioned a set of eight commemorative stamps.

The stamps are officially licensed by the Ministry of Defence, highlighting the rich history and legacy of the RAF – the world’s first independent air force, founded on 1 April, 2018.

A unique feature of this stamp collection is the incredible depth of information that each stamp contains in relation to the RAF history.

Combating loneliness: it’s all about people and time

The recent appointment of the Loneliness Minister, Tracey Crouch, has once again heightened awareness of the impact of loneliness and isolation on a society of increasing elderly, and those more vulnerable members of our communities.

The adult social care sector is addressing this society-wide challenge head-on, with many tried and tested initiatives underway. This includes the RAF Benevolent Fund’s Princess Marina House, the charity’s flagship care and respite centre on the West Sussex coast.

Derbyshire man to take on epic 100km challenge for military charity

A man from Derbyshire is currently training to compete in a 100km walk in Yorkshire for Blind Veterans UK, the national charity for blind and vision-impaired ex-Service men and women.

Mark Henson, 57 and from Crich, will be taking part in the challenge with his walking group, the Sole Survivors. He says: “My friends Vanessa, Colin and Louise and I have been walking together for a number of years now and we’re always on the lookout for new and exciting challenges.”

Huge thanks to the Veterans’ Foundation for their recent funding support. A fantastic amount to help us with those critical things that allow a charity to operate: funding to cover bespoke training for our volunteers, IT equipment to replace our current holdings that are coal-fired, and PR/merchandising apparatus allowing us to reach out to a wider audience – prospective delegates and like-minded organisations – letting people know what we deliver.
