Local sight loss charity steps back into the 70s for Murder Mystery

Blind Veterans UK, the charity for blind and vision-impaired ex-Service men and women, is inviting local residents to join them for a 70s-themed Murder Mystery evening.

The evening, titled Murder on the Dance Floor, has been written by A Play Fitted Theatre Company and will take place on Friday 15 June at Chateau Rhianfa, Menai Bridge.

Victoria Beech, Regional Fundraiser for Blind Veterans UK, says: “We’re hoping that, as usual, guests make the most of the opportunity to get dressed up and fully embrace the occasion!

Pedal on the Prom to support your local military charity

Blind Veterans UK, the national charity for vision-impaired ex-Service men and women, is calling on local cyclists to join them for a leisurely cycle ride.

The event will take place on Saturday 19 May, with North Wales Coastal path set to play host to a 93.6km cycle ride. Participants are welcome to join the ride at various locations between Barkby Beach Prestatn and Llandudno Cenotaph.

RNRMC continue to support Scotland’s naval veteran community

The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC) has confirmed that it will award military care home provider, Erskine Homes, a grant of £40,000 to ensure the continued care and support of naval veterans.

As an established provider of care, Erskine looks after around 800 elderly and disabled ex-Service men and women, their spouses and widows/widowers each year. They offer long term residential and respite nursing, dementia and palliative care to its occupants.

Spinnaker Abseil Success

South West based charity Alabaré held a thrilling fundraiser on Sunday 25th March as 45 participant’s abseiled down the Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth.

The event helped to raise over £12,000 for Alabaré’s Homes for Veterans service as those taking part descended over 100 metres down the side of the iconic harbour side landmark.

With each of those taking part pledging to raise a minimum of £200, the event helped to raise vital funds for veterans who are homelessness or those at risk of being so.

The Legion adds its voice to calls to recognise first black Officer

The Royal British Legion is supporting a campaign to posthumously award a Military Cross to Walter Tull, Britain’s first black Army Officer who was killed during the First World War.

To coincide with the 100th anniversary of Tull’s death yesterday, over 120 MPs signed a letter to the Prime Minister and Secretary of State for Defence asking for the medal be awarded to mark the centenary.

This year, the Legion is leading a national movement to thank all who served and sacrificed during the war, from those who lost their lives to those who played their part on the home front.

Stand Easy May 2018 drama projects

Stand Easy works with Wounded, Injured and Sick Veterans to help their recovery through drama activities. We are based in Dundee but take Veterans from throughout Scotland. We run weekly drama/social workshops but we also run one 4 week drama project in May each year.

This year the project starts on May 7th and it will end with a short tour of Tayside Community Venues. The play will be devised by the Veterans together with a staff of professionals and also volunteer drama students. It will focus on family life in the military and after transition.

The Trustees of the Royal Naval Benevolent Trust invite applications to become a resident of the John Cornwell VC National Memorial Almshouse.

Eligibility is open to all needy disabled and/or infirm former sailors and Royal Marines up to and including the rate or rank of Warrant Officer, and their families. The almshouse facilities are not suitable for residents with a severe disability due to the design and construction of the buildings, which consists of a community of six cottage homes in Hornchurch, Essex.

Amputee war veteran takes on D-Day 44 challenge for Military Charity

An amputee war veteran is taking on his first ultra-running challenge on the 74th anniversary of the D-Day landings to support fellow injured veterans.

Former soldier Rob Copsey will be running 44-miles along the Normandy coastline for the relaunched D-Day 44 Challenge on the 6th June to raise money for military charity Blesma, The Limbless Veterans.

The challenge, which consists of a 44-mile run or 22-mile walk, was set up in 2009 by Army surgeon Lt Col Mike McErlain to commemorate the 1944 Allied invasion of occupied France on the anniversary of D-Day. However, in 2013, the event was cancelled when Mike tragically collapsed and died while taking part.
