Royal Artillery Band marching in for Troop Aid

The Chairman and Trustees of the Solihull based charity Troop Aid are delighted to announce that the Royal Artillery Band will be making a special guest appearance at the 2017 Ball.

Tickets are now on sale at £60 each for what promises to be another spectacular occasion on Saturday 7 October 2017.

This year’s venue will be the National Conference Centre, home of the National Motorcycle Museum, Coventry Road, Bickenhill, Solihull, West Midlands, B92 0EJ.

New academic role for Veterans Aid CEO

CEO of Veterans Aid Dr Hugh Milroy has been appointed Visiting Senior Lecturer in the Department of Psychological Medicine at King’s College London’s Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN).

He said, “I am proud and delighted to have what has been a long ‘informal’ relationship with King’s formalised in this way. Students are our future and I hope that by working with them we can open minds and challenge some of the orthodox thinking about veterans that leads to so much harmful stereotyping.”

New Forces in Mind Trust Award: Army Families Federation research symposium

A grant of £3,000 has been awarded to the Army Families Federation (AFF) by the Forces in Mind Trust, to hold a research symposium in partnership with King’s Centre for Military Research this November, at the Victory Services Club, London.

Following the success of the event in 2015, AFF had planned to hold a second symposium in June this year. However, due to the terrorist attack that took place around London Bridge the weekend before the symposium, the event was postponed. Without additional funding, it would not have been possible to re-schedule the symposium for the foreseeable future.

New play park brings smiles to RAF Shawbury

RAF Shawbury’s new play park was officially unveiled during its Families Day event by Air Vice-Marshal Warren James CBE, Air Officer Commanding 22 (Training) Group. He cut the blue ribbon in front of excited and eager children, who proceeded to test out their new play area.

The new layout has been designed for children of all ages, replacing one which only catered for toddlers. It was created in consultation with the young people at RAF Shawbury.

An Oscarordinary Challenge

Sgt Steph Evans of 24 Squadron RAF Brize Norton is taking on a series of challenges like no other: a year of epic fundraising events, which she’s calling ‘An Oscarordinary Challenge’ after her young son, Oscar, who has Goldenhar syndrome, a facial cranium condition.

She aims to raise £20,000 to benefit our charity and others with 12 months of walks, spinathons, decathlons and runs – including Marathon des Sables in the Sahara Desert. She also wants to raise awareness of Oscar’s condition.

Walking With The Wounded beneficiary, Kyle, set to run from Warrington to Ipswich in aid of wounded veterans.

Walking With The Wounded (WWTW) is exceptionally proud of beneficiary, Kyle, who is planning to run from Warrington to Ipswich in just 5 days. Kyle will be starting his 210 mile journey from Warrington on Monday 4th September, aiming to run 42 miles per day.

Kyle served with 9 Parachute Squadron RE (Royal Engineers) and served 2 tours of Afghanistan.

Kyle has explained on his Just Giving page: “I am trying to raise as much money as possible… for PTSD victims.” He is hoping to raise £1000 for the military charity Walking With The Wounded, which supports physically, mentally and socially wounded ex-servicemen and women back into independence by assisting them into sustainable employment and helping them to reintegrate back into society.

Record numbers of Naval children attend Kings Camps in Portsmouth and Fareham

The Kings Camp at both HMS Temeraire and HMS Collingwood ended this year with record high numbers of naval children in attendance.

Children from ages 5 to 14 years-old turned up in their droves to attend this summer’s sporting activity camps. The camps, which play host to children from naval background, offer a plethora of fun sports activities from Badminton to Swimming, the camp offers it all.

Having begun as a single week at HMS Temeraire with between 30 and 40 children, Kings Camp Portsmouth and HMS Collingwood in Fareham now host over 210 children between them.
