The ‘must have’ bag that’s CAUSING WAVES and raising thousands to support the Naval Community.

The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity have been overwhelmed by the popularity of their ‘Carrier Bags’ which commemorate the arrival of the Navy’s newest Aircraft Carrier the HMS Queen Elizabeth. The limited edition ‘Carrier Bags’ have raised thousands of pounds for The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC) and are fast becoming the unexpected must have item of the summer

The stylish hessian bags that feature an artistic stencil of HMS Queen Elizabeth have sold at such an impressive rate, that over 1000 bags were sold within the first 12 hours alone.

Not only are the ‘Carrier Bags’ a memento of an historic day in Britain’s naval history but 100% of the funds raised by the bags will go towards aiding the naval community. As the official charity of the Royal Navy, the RNRMC’s mission is to ensure that sailors, marines, veterans and their families are supported, for life.

Alabaré’s Homes for Veterans welcome new team leaders in Bristol and Gloucestershire

Alabaré are delighted to welcome Kenneth Kwogyenga as the new Gloucestershire Homes for Veterans Team Leader and Harrison Buttress as new Team Leader in Bristol Homes for Veterans.

Kenneth has been working with Alabaré for almost 4 years as one of the housing support workers at Homes for Veterans Gloucestershire. Originally, from Ghana, Kenny served in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. He left after a tour of Afghanistan to pursue a new career, and found himself working for Alabaré’s Homes for Veterans, helping homeless Veterans in need.

Support that leaves no one behind.

As an island nation dependent on the seas for 95% of our trade, the UK needs a strong Royal Navy; and as the vital amphibious element of the RN, the Royal Marines are a key component of the nation’s defence.

Despite withdrawal from Afghanistan, the Royal Marines remain deployed on duty serving the nation around the globe 365 days a year – whether on anti-piracy duties, protecting the nuclear deterrent, guarding embassies, or on Special Forces operations. The Royal Marines form 49% of UK Special Forces personnel and have won 211 national-level gallantry and meritorious service awards, including 25% of all gallantry awards made during the Afghan campaign.

Seafarers UK calls on UK Government to make Merchant Navy Day ‘official’ across the UK

On Merchant Navy Day, 3 September, the Red Ensign will be flown ashore to raise awareness of our dependence as an island nation on our past, present and future Merchant Navy seafarers.

The Red Ensign has since 1854 been the official flag of the British Merchant Navy, flown on ‘UK-flagged’ vessels of all sizes, from workboats and superyachts to container ships, fuel tankers and cruise liners. 3 September in 1939 marked the outbreak of the Second World War when the merchant ship SS Athenia was torpedoed and sunk, with the loss of 128 passengers and crew.

Armed Forces Pay – Have Your Say

The NFF meets annually with the Armed Forces’ Pay Review Body (AFPRB) to present feedback from Service People and their families. The AFPRB makes recommendations to the Prime Minister and the Secretary of State for Defence on military pay, allowances and charges. This year’s AFPRB will meet in the Autumn term.

UK charity seeks out British Korean War veterans for international education film project

The Legasee Educational Trust Links up with the Korean War Legacy Foundation for Educational Project Covering Three Continents

The Legasee Educational Trust is looking for Korean War Veterans from across the UK to come forward and share their experiences of the often forgotten conflict for a major new oral history project that will see British contributors added to the Korean War Legacy Foundation’s international digital memorial archive.

The New York-based Korean War Legacy Foundation, Inc. (KWLF) has sponsored the Legasee Educational Trust to film the oral accounts of British Korean War Veterans for their digital memorial, which hosts around 800 in-depth interviews with Korean War vets and 6,000 historical artefacts related to the conflict.

Army veteran from Conwy competes in Race the Train for local military charity

An army veteran from Conwy has competed in the Race the Train Quarry Challenge for Blind Veterans UK, the national charity for blind and vision-impaired ex-Service men and women.

Kevin Williams, 44 and from Glan Conwy, narrowly missed out on glory after finishing the 10 kilometre course in 56 minutes and 27 seconds, with the train coming in at 55 minutes. Kevin says: “It was a great day all round and it was fantastic to see so many people out in support.

Military charity supports new government guidelines to reach veterans battling sight loss

Blind Veterans UK is welcoming a new Certificate of Vision Impairment (CVI) form and accompanying Explanatory Notes for ophthalmologists which have been launched on the Department of Health website.

The military charity is part of a working group with other charities, led by the RNIB, which has supported the development of the new CVI form. This form is issued to patients assessed by a consultant ophthalmologist as being vision-impaired and often provides the first opportunity for patients to access information about support and services.
