Berkshire man to run London Marathon for military charity he works for

A man from Berkshire is currently training to compete in this year’s London Marathon for the beneficiaries of Blind Veterans UK, the national charity for blind and vision-impaired ex-Service men and women.

Charlie McAllister, 22 and from Windsor, has long hoped to complete the world-famous course and decided that 2018 would be the year he finally committed. He explains: “It’s always been on my bucket list. Everyone knows about the atmosphere, the significance and, of course, the immense challenge involved. I’m just excited to get out there and experience it firsthand”

The Call of Duty™ Endowment (“the Endowment”) is proud to announce the selection of RFEA – The Forces Employment Charity and Walking With The Wounded as the first UK recipients of the Call of Duty™ Endowment Seal of Distinction, the standard of excellence in the veterans’ employment sector. Winners each receive a $30,000 unrestricted grant and the opportunity to apply for additional funding, advice, and support.

“Meaningful employment is the single most important way to ensure that service members successfully transition back to civilian life,” said Dan Goldenberg, Executive Director of the Call of Duty Endowment.

Isle of Man Post Office introduces stamps to mark RAF100

As a tribute to all who have served in the Royal Air Force in the last century, Isle of Man Post Office has commissioned a set of eight commemorative stamps.

The stamps are officially licensed by the Ministry of Defence, highlighting the rich history and legacy of the RAF – the world’s first independent air force, founded on 1 April, 2018.

A unique feature of this stamp collection is the incredible depth of information that each stamp contains in relation to the RAF history.

Combating loneliness: it’s all about people and time

The recent appointment of the Loneliness Minister, Tracey Crouch, has once again heightened awareness of the impact of loneliness and isolation on a society of increasing elderly, and those more vulnerable members of our communities.

The adult social care sector is addressing this society-wide challenge head-on, with many tried and tested initiatives underway. This includes the RAF Benevolent Fund’s Princess Marina House, the charity’s flagship care and respite centre on the West Sussex coast.

A fantastic amount to help us with those critical things that allow a charity to operate: funding to cover bespoke training for our volunteers, IT equipment to replace our current holdings that are coal-fired, and PR/merchandising apparatus allowing us to reach out to a wider audience – prospective delegates and like-minded organisations – letting people know what we deliver.

Big Salute Grant Awarded to Felix Fund

Felix Fund is just one of a wide range of charities that offer help and support to service personnel, veterans and their families to have received BFBS Big Salute grants.

These latest grants have been funded by the 2016-2017 Big Salute campaign, thanks to generous donations and sponsored events undertaken by personnel and military communities from across the forces world.

And this year, the Big Salute fundraising pot had additional support from the Services Sound and Vision Corporation’s (SSVC) Board of Trustees.

The Charity Commission has been awarded funding from the Government of £5 million per year to help it respond to significant increases in demand on its core regulatory functions, including registration and compliance.

This funding has been awarded as a interim solution, while the Commission considers longer term, more sustainable funding models.
