Summer Fayre raises over £7,000 for disabled veterans

On Saturday 14 July, Care for Veterans opened its doors for its annual Summer Fayre, as it has done for many decades.

Despite the World Cup, Wimbledon, and Worthing Pride all being on at the same time, hundreds of visitors came to support the day and a fabulous £7,390 was raised for the charity! Guests enjoyed live performances by the Care for Veterans Choir, the Wonder Girls Pom Pom Troupe, line dancers and the Bubble Man, and also had their photographs taken with Storm Troopers from the Iconic Legion and viewed the amazing motorbikes on show from Raevens Motorcycle Club and Sussex Military Classic bikes.

Tyne and Wear veteran completes ultimate challenge for SSAFA

A local Navy veteran has completed the ultimate SAS selection challenge and raised over £4,000 for the charities that have supported him after he was diagnosed with PTSD.

Last Saturday, John Mew, 60, from Dinnington in Newcastle took part in the gruelling 24km Fan Dance Race, which sees participants run over the highest mountain in the Brecon Beacons, Pen Y Fen, not just once – but twice.

Rally for Heroes going full throttle over 3,000 miles to honour the fallen and support SSAFA, the Armed Forced Charity

At 10.15am on 2 August 2018, Rally for Heroes will roar away from a starting block of the Horse Guards Parade and down The Mall in London, just outside Buckingham Palace. Set to be launched by a celebrity special guest, the 60 vehicle-strong convoy will head down to Dover and then cover a total of 3,000 miles across Europe – 5 miles for every fallen Forces hero since the start of the Afghanistan campaign.

Lady Kitty Spencer and Ant Middleton host a lunch for military families

On the 27th June, the charity’s Patron, Lady Kitty Spencer, hosted an intimate lunch at Fortnum & Mason to raise funds to send a group of families on a respite break to Malta.

Lady Kitty was joined on the day by Give Us Time’s Ambassador, Ant Middleton, who was previously in the Special Boat Services and now hosts the Channel 4 shows SAS: Who Dares Wins and Mutiny.

Floral Clock Unveiled

The finishing touches have been put to Edinburgh’s historic floral clock, which this summer has been designed to mark 100 years since the signing of the Armistice, leading to the end of the First World War.

The West Princes Street Gardens landmark, maintained by the City of Edinburgh Council, has been created in partnership with Armed Forces charity Poppyscotland as part of their year-long fundraising campaign, The 1918 Poppy Pledge.

Combat Stress partners with British Military Fitness

British Military Fitness (BMF) have partnered with Combat Stress, the UK’s leading charity for veterans’ mental health to promote fundraising challenges to their members.

For almost a year the fitness company has provided weekly classes to veterans receiving treatment at Tyrwhitt House, the charity’s treatment centre in Surrey. These sessions encourage the veterans to become more active and teaches them the positive impact physical health can have on mental health.

Coldstream Guards coming to Exeter Cathedral

Nation’s Oldest Army Regiment to perform to raise money for SSAFA.

On the evening of Saturday 28th July, locals are set to be delighted by the Regimental Band of the Coldstream Guards performing inside the atmospheric Exeter Cathedral. The concert will be raising money for the Devon branch of SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, following a connection made by the SSAFA Devon Branch Patron, Lord Clifford (a former Coldstream Guards Officer and President of the local Coldstream Guards Association).

SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity colla-bear-ates with Steiff for limited edition Armistice bear

In time for the centenary of the end of the First World War, a special collaboration has been announced between SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity and Steiff.

The oldest, tri-service military charity and the world’s oldest manufacturer of hand-crafted stuffed animals for collectors and machine washable plush toys for children have come together to honour this poignant moment in history, with a limited-edition collector’s Armistice Bear. Each bear sold will raise £20 for SSAFA – helping to provide practical, emotional and financial help for the Armed Forces community in need.

Four Essex women take on 100km walk for charity

Four women from Brightlingsea in Essex are preparing to take part in a 100km walk over 24 hours to raise money for Blind Veterans UK, the national charity for blind and vision-impaired ex-Service men and women.

Nicola Pryer, 38, works for the charity and will tackle the challenge this July in a team with her friends Tessa Bates, 40, Tasha Hales, 43, and Marsha Robinson, 39. The group have been training over the past three months for the 100km walk from London to Brighton.
