Forces in Mind Trust releases new report on the impact of self-build projects in supporting ex-Service personnel

Self-build projects can have a significant positive impact on the wellbeing and relationships of ex-Service personnel, suggests a new report by the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol) and the Forces in Mind Trust, released today (1 February 2016).

Whilst the majority of Service leavers return successfully into civilian life without too many challenges, there are some who need additional support – especially in relation to housing. It is estimated that around 15% of ex-Service personnel might be homeless for a time when they leave the Forces – which includes living temporarily in a B&B or hostel, or ‘sofa surfing’ as well as living rough. Recent estimates also suggest that between 3% and 6% of rough sleepers in London have a Service background.

Tidworth Job Fair 2017 – Wednesday 15 March 2017

A wide variety of industry sectors will be represented, including (but not exclusively): health, care, construction, transport, communications, tourism & leisure, manufacturing, bio sciences & pharmaceutical, finance and defence.

Scottish veterans at greater risk of deprivation than those in rest of UK

Combat Stress has found that ex-servicemen and women receiving help from the charity in Scotland face higher levels of deprivation than those living in the rest of the UK.

Multiple deprivation in help-seeking UK veterans is a new research paper published on Tuesday 31 January by the leading mental health charity for veterans. It is the first study of its kind in the UK to explore experiences of deprivation in veterans with mental health issues.

The Soldiering On Awards will honour the 2017 finalists at the House of Lords on Thursday 9th February. AFF to host symposium in partnership with the King’s Centre for Military Health Research

Following the success of their first symposium in 2015, The Army Families Federation (AFF) will once again host a Research Symposium to discuss the issues Army families face and share findings and research with others also working in this field of work.

This event will take place on Monday 5 June at the Guy’s Campus, King’s College London.
