Last Friday, 6th October, marked the Charity’s annual Red, White & Blue day in schools. The annual fundraising initiative, which raises vital funds for ourselves, The RAF Benevolent Fund and The Royal Navy, and Royal Marines Charity, helps us to promote awareness of the difficulties faced by Service families.
Read moreOn Friday 20th October a spicy fundraiser will be taking place from 12 noon at Durham based charity Finchale’s headquarters in Pity Me, to raise money for soldiers and veterans in need of assistance across the region.
For the second year running organisers from Finchale are extending a ‘hot’ invitation to diners to join them for a bit of fun and a relaxed opportunity to enjoy some fantastic food whilst making a difference. All proceeds from the event will go to ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, the National Charity of the British Army providing support to soldiers, veterans and their families.

Read moreEarlier this year, ABF The Soldiers’ Charity provided a £50,000 grant to Care For Veterans (formerly Queen Alexandra Hospital Homes) who continually support disabled veterans.
First established in 1919, Care For Veterans provides excellent care and rehabilitation to ex-Servicemen and women who require full-time nursing, whilst enabling patients to live as independently as possible.
Care for Veterans’ range of rehabilitation programmes include; Speech Therapy, End of Life Care, Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy. They also provide specialist care for those with Acquired Brain Injury (ABI).

The Taxi Charity are a group of London taxi drivers who volunteer their services to take veterans on a range of trips. They span from day trips around Britain to historical spots throughout Europe such as: Normandy, Dunkirk, and Wageningen, Netherlands.

The grant, awarded to Alabaré’s Homes for Veterans by ABF The Soldiers’ Charity will benefit the charity’s Welsh Homes for Veterans who will receive £50,000 of the grant, and £90,000 will be used by England Homes for Veterans to provide supported accommodation and support for those Veterans in need.
Alabaré’s Homes for Veterans offer support to service men and women across the UK who have left active service and who are experiencing difficulty adapting to civilian life. These former service personnel are homeless or at risk of being homeless, usually due to a lack of support network and social isolation after discharge.

The extremely generous donation will go towards the cost of providing rehabilitation services to disabled Army veterans and their dependents who live at QAHH, over the next 12 months.
QAHH has been caring for disabled veterans since it was first established in 1919, and with no regular government funding, the charity must raise over £1.3 million each year to maintain its nursing and rehabilitation services for ex-Service personnel.

Defence Secretary Sir Michael Fallon gave a speech and officially opened Victory and Invictus Games Houses built by the Royal British Legion Industries.

Read moreBrenda Hale, our Charity Ambassador, is now a published author! ‘’I Married a Soldier’ follows Brenda’s experience of losing her husband, Captain Mark Hale, whilst he was serving with 2 RIFLES in Afghanistan on the 13th August 2009.
Mark’s unit had been providing security for a meeting of local leaders in Sangin and searching a mosque for ammunition, when a soldier triggered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED).
