11th December – British Atomic Veterans Event

RBLI would like to invite all those who have served in the Armed Forces and are 65 or over to this Kent-based event in Capel Morris Centre. In recognition of where the Aged Veterans fund originates from we are honoured to have the national Chairman of British Nuclear Test Veterans Association to give a talk on the Christmas Island nuclear bomb tests in 1950’s and 60’s and on their on-going support to the Veterans who were affected by the tests.

Plans unveiled for Scotland’s Bravest Manufacturing Company to employ Scottish veterans

Scotland’s Bravest Manufacturing Company, the largest employment development specifically for Scottish veterans in decades, will open at veterans’ charity Erskine’s headquarters next June, it was announced today.

Renfrewshire-based social enterprise SBMC is projected to help more than 40 of the country’s brave ex-servicemen and women every year through direct, flexible employment – whilst also offering vital tailored wrap-around welfare support and accommodation in collaboration with Erskine.

New £4m RBLI apartments, specifically designed for veterans, opened by Defence Secretary Sir Michael Fallon

The Secretary of State for Defence, Sir Michael Fallon, has today opened Royal British Legion Industries’ new £4m apartments for injured veterans. The apartments, which were funded by the Government through The Libor Fund and four corporate donors, including the Morrisons Foundation, were officially opened at a grand event on Friday with over 250 attendees.

Situated on Hermitage Lane near Maidstone, the apartments have been built specifically for veterans who are wounded, injured, sick, or at risk of homelessness. The houses host 24 one and two-bed flats, all with special adaptations to make the lives of those with disabilities easier.

Opening of the RBLI Invictus and Victory Houses

Defence Secretary Sir Michael Fallon gave a speech and officially opened Victory and Invictus Games Houses built by the Royal British Legion Industries.

Excerpt from Sir Michael Fallon’s speech:

It’s a huge pleasure to be here today to open these magnificent new apartments and meet their future occupants who I look forward to chatting to in a few minute’s time.

I remember standing across the road from here three years ago not long after I’d been appointed Defence Secretary. Back then there was nothing but a barren patch of land and set of ambitious plans.

RBLI’s specialised dementia programme to train 120 carers

Royal British Legion Industries will provide specialised dementia training to their 120-strong nursing workforce based in Kent, following a government grant, in order to tackle the growing lack of care for dementia patients.

The military and disability charity are set to receive £350,000 for the programme which will be delivered in partnership with Dementia Care Matters and will see all of those who care for elderly veterans in RBLI’s Aylesford village receive year-long dementia care training – while more than 30 staff members will receive university-level tuition.
