Isle of Man Post Office introduces stamps to mark RAF100

As a tribute to all who have served in the Royal Air Force in the last century, Isle of Man Post Office has commissioned a set of eight commemorative stamps.

The stamps are officially licensed by the Ministry of Defence, highlighting the rich history and legacy of the RAF – the world’s first independent air force, founded on 1 April, 2018.

A unique feature of this stamp collection is the incredible depth of information that each stamp contains in relation to the RAF history.

Combating loneliness: it’s all about people and time

The recent appointment of the Loneliness Minister, Tracey Crouch, has once again heightened awareness of the impact of loneliness and isolation on a society of increasing elderly, and those more vulnerable members of our communities.

The adult social care sector is addressing this society-wide challenge head-on, with many tried and tested initiatives underway. This includes the RAF Benevolent Fund’s Princess Marina House, the charity’s flagship care and respite centre on the West Sussex coast.

Future for Heroes – Veterans’ Foundation Support

Huge thanks to the Veterans’ Foundation for their recent funding support. A fantastic amount to help us with those critical things that allow a charity to operate: funding to cover bespoke training for our volunteers, IT equipment to replace our current holdings that are coal-fired, and PR/merchandising apparatus allowing us to reach out to a wider audience – prospective delegates and like-minded organisations – letting people know what we deliver.

Big Salute Grant Awarded to Felix Fund

Felix Fund is just one of a wide range of charities that offer help and support to service personnel, veterans and their families to have received BFBS Big Salute grants.

These latest grants have been funded by the 2016-2017 Big Salute campaign, thanks to generous donations and sponsored events undertaken by personnel and military communities from across the forces world.

And this year, the Big Salute fundraising pot had additional support from the Services Sound and Vision Corporation’s (SSVC) Board of Trustees.

The Charity Commission has been awarded funding from the Government of £5 million per year to help it respond to significant increases in demand on its core regulatory functions, including registration and compliance.

This funding has been awarded as a interim solution, while the Commission considers longer term, more sustainable funding models.

A military charity is inviting local artisans to exhibit their work at a craft fair held at Chateau Rhianfa.

Blind Veterans UK, the charity for blind and vision-impaired ex-Service men and women, is inviting local artisans to exhibit their unique crafts and products at the Artisan Craft Fair. The event will take place on both March 3 and March 4, from 11am to 4pm.

Victoria Beech, Blind Veterans UK Regional Fundraiser, says: “We’re excited to be returning to Chateau Rhianfa following our hugely successful Winter Market in November.

Row2Recovery Team Trident break World Record for fastest pair to row the Atlantic Ocean

An amputee war veteran has just set the record time for rowing across the Atlantic in what is branded the world’s toughest endurance race.

Former Para Jordan Beecher and Captain Jon Armstrong became the fastest pair to complete the gruelling crossing as they powered their seven-metre-long boat to the finish line in just 37 days, beating the previous record by around three days.

The pair, who first met in the back of a Land Rover as new recruit Paratroopers on a military exercise on Salisbury Plain, braved mountainous seas and 40C temperatures on the 3,000-mile journey from the Canary Islands to Antigua.

Military charity challenges brave soles to walk on fire

A military charity is challenging local residents to test their nerves in a daring fire walk.

On Saturday 28 April, Blind Veterans UK will be hosting the Worcester Fire Walk Challenge, a 15 feet walk over hot coals, at New College Worcester. The coals will reach temperatures of 1200 degrees Fahrenheit, 100 degrees more than it takes to melt aluminium.

Cornwall health care worker to take on 100km challenge for charity that supports her father

A health care worker from Cornwall is training to complete a 100 kilometre walk in Yorkshire for Blind Veterans UK, the national charity for vision-impaired ex-Service men and women that supports her father.

Sue Edwards, 49 and from Hayle, explains that the care the organisation has provided her father with fed her decision to fundraise on its behalf. She explains: “He became a beneficiary about 18 months and absolutely loves it. My mum too. They’ve been down to the charity’s Brighton centre three times already and always have a fantastic time!
