Do you have what it takes? Blind Veterans UK challenges Sussex residents

Blind Veterans UK is challenging Sussex residents to walk 100km from London to Brighton in 24 hours to raise money for Blind Veterans UK, the national charity for blind and vision-impaired ex-Service men and women.

The 100k London to Brighton will take place from 7 – 8 July 2018. It will see participants start off at the Hammersmith and Fulham Rugby Club, before crossing the North Downs, walking via woodland and small villages to Sussex and through the South Downs.

£80,000 grant to SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity by RAF Benevolent Fund to support members of the RAF Family

The Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund has awarded a grant of £80,000 in September 2017 toward SSAFA’s Casework service and other services that alleviate need, suffering and distress.

Casework sits at the heart of SSAFA’s work and provides personalised, holistic support to those currently serving, reserves, ex-service men and women, and their families. In recent years their Casework service has seen increasing numbers of working age beneficiaries requiring help. These beneficiaries have complex needs, including financial hardship, mental wellbeing issues, inadequate housing and lack of employment.

Update from Supporting Wounded Veterans

LIBOR: SWV are extremely grateful to the LIBOR fund for granting them their full funding application for £1,054,800. The grant will finance their Pain Management Programme for a further three years.

SWV Ski Week: SWV have now completed their Veteran interviews for their 2018 Ski Week, and have selected 26 Veterans (out of 180 applications) to join their Skihabiliation programme next March.

Carol Concert: On 4th December, SWV held their first Carol Concert at St Peter’s Church, Eaton Sq. With over 500 tickets sold and a waiting list of over 100, they are happy to announce that this will now become an annual event.

Walking With The Wounded is very excited to announce that award winning singer-songwriter, Jamie Lawson, has chosen to support Walking Home For Christmas this year. All funds raised from his new Christmas single, ‘Footprints in the Snow’, will go towards supporting ex-service personnel. WWTW hope the military community will get behind Jamie’s single in a bid to secure the number 1 spot this Christmas and support those who need it most.

Birmingham International Tattoo raises £101,000 for local veterans’ charity

Birmingham International Tattoo, Britain’s biggest annual indoor military event, has reached a magnificent total of £101,000 for local veterans’ charity, The Royal Star & Garter Homes. The event, which features over 1,250 performers from across the Services, has been supporting the Charity for the past ten years. All money raised goes towards providing award-winning specialist care for veterans and their partners living with disability or dementia at the Charity’s Solihull Home, located only a few miles from where the Tattoo is held each year.

Three Substantial Grants Are Awarded to the NFA

The NFA were thrilled to receive three substantial grants from LIBOR, ABF The Soldiers Charity and Seafarers UK over the past fortnight. Over the next three years, the Association will receive a total of £294,000 in funding from LIBOR. This, combined with this year’s grants of £65,000 from ABF The Soldiers Charity and £5925 from Seafarers, will contribute hugely towards the work we do over the coming years.

ABF The Soldiers’ Charity supports Army Widows Association Respite Weekend

Our charity has awarded the Army Widows’ Association a £24,000 grant. This will go towards supporting their AGM Respite Weekends and continuing the excellent work they do. The Army Widows’ Association was formed in 2004 and offers comfort, support, and friendship to the widows and widowers of service men and women.

All the members of the Army Widows’ Association have lost their husbands, wives, or partners, in varying circumstances, and are given support and help in whichever terms they need.
