Partnership with Openreach raises £100k for SSAFA

Since announcing their partnership in 2015, Openreach, Britain’s digital network business, has now raised more than £100,000 for SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity. From taking part in the Big Brew Up to trekking the Icelandic terrain to raise money, the team has got behind the cause whole-heartedly. In addition, Openreach has hired nearly 2,500 veterans since 2011.

Already this year has recruited almost 300 trainee engineers from a Forces background. SSAFA continues to work with Openreach to support the Armed Forces community.

Project Semaphore – update

Project Semaphore, is an RNA initiative funded by the Aged Veterans Fund, to provide an iPad to address the issue of digital isolation in older Veterans which exacerbates loneliness and poverty. It is not an IT Project, it is a Project to provide friendship, support and practical help. With the outcome of better spiritual and mental health: a recent study equated loneliness in the elderly to the effect of smoking 15 cigarettes a day.

The devices have been built to our specification and include shortcuts to the RN, RNA, RMA websites as well as several pre-loaded Apps, mindful that using an IT equipment for the first time can be overwhelming, the links to the RN are familiar and help to dilute initial fears.

RNRMC Publish Outcomes for ‘Through Life Pathway’ Benevolence Grants for 2018

The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity have published their revised outcomes for the ‘Through Life Pathway’ benevolence grant 2018 application process.

Available through the RNRMC’s website, the guidelines list an overview of timings for the application process and the Themes and Outcomes for the ‘Through Life Pathway’ application process.

Those who are eligible for assistance is defined by the RNRMC’s Memorandum of Association as: “Men and women who are serving or have served in the Naval Service or the Auxiliaries or the Women’s Royal Naval Service, and their dependents”

Can you help the NFA in the Aviva Community Fund Awards?

The Not Forgotten Association has made it to the voting stage of the Aviva Community Fund Awards. We are seeking funding for two boat trips – one on the Solent and one at Runnymede. Each campaign could see the Association awarded £5000 and would help charity to reach those who need help. The two trips combined will benefit a total of 200 veterans and their carers, by treating them all to a much-needed day out.

The Soldiers’ Charity awards Good Vibrations £5,000 to assist with drum workshops

Last Friday Katie (Media Officer), and Vikki (Grants and Welfare Executive Officer), took part in one of Good Vibrations’ gamelan workshops to see how The Soldiers’ Charity grant was helping those who need assistance.

Good Vibrations is an award-winning national charity that uses communal music-making via the use of a gamelan to support people in challenging circumstances.

The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo makes a vital grant to our Charity

We are delighted to announce that our Charity has received a significant grant of £286,000 from the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, which will continue to assist us in supporting soldiers, veterans and their immediate families, for life.

Following its 19th consecutive sell-out year, the Tattoo announced that it would be donating an impressive £1 million to UK-based charitable organisations, including the three service charities: ourselves, The RAF Benevolent Fund and The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity.

South London Military Wives Choir sing at The Poppy Factory Christmas Concert

The UK’s leading employment charity for disabled veterans, The Poppy Factory, will hold a one off magical evening of Christmas carols sung by the South London Military wives choir on Wednesday 13th December 2017.

The ‘Carols at Christmas’ concert, taking place in St Mary’s Church, Twickenham, will be hosted by Jazz FM & BBC Radio’s Jamie Crick.

The evening will also include readings from Poppy Factory clients and supporters and will be followed by a festive reception of wine and mince pies.

The Big Sleep at Stonehenge

Alabaré were delighted to be working in collaboration with English Heritage for the second year at the world-renowned Stonehenge. After last year’s huge success, they were privileged to yet again host a BIG SLEEP at the iconic venue. In the grounds of arguably the most famous prehistoric monument on the planet. Over 100 people from the local military community slept out, over night at the Stonehenge visitor centre on Friday 13th October.

Those sleeping out were from local Armed Forces camps, employees and families of Sodexo Defence and other defence contractors.

Catherine Walker & Co to hold private exhibition for charity

Celebrating four decades of British couture
Spencer House, London, 16th to 18th October, 2017

To mark its 40th anniversary, British couturier Catherine Walker & Co is holding an invitation-only exhibition at Spencer House to raise money for two charities, SSAFA and Brendoncare, supported by St James’s Place Wealth Management, held from the 16th to the 18th October, 2017.

Personally curated by Co-Founder and Head of Design Said Cyrus, exhibits will comprise archive pieces worn by Catherine Walker & Co’s most famous clientele, accompanied by their handwritten notes and original drawings.
