Once again, a group of King’s Lynn park runners made the pilgrimage to the Somme area of France to commemorate the infamous Battle of the Somme by running the length of the Northern front line in aid of the Royal British Legion. The run was organised by Gary Walker, Secretary of the Sedgeford and District Branch who is also a Run Director for the King’s Lynn parkrun, whose members he canvassed to join him.

Based in Vallouise these trips embrace the NFA ethos of “Comradeship to Challenge” and embody all that is great about the NFA; mixing veterans from the Falklands, Gulf War 91 and Northern Ireland with those from more recent conflicts, and bringing those suffering from PTSD, amputees and others with a variety of injuries – including some still serving but undergoing rehabilitation – together as a team.

Based at RAF Lossiemouth as a Logistics Mover, Jon’s first ever marathon was back in 2007, when he took on the 26.2 mile race in London, completing it in four hours 56 minutes.
It was two years ago, however, that Jon set his sights on joining the exclusive 100 marathon club. A challenge which would pay homage to his career in the Royal Air Force as he aims to complete his last ever race on the centenary of the RAF.
Read moreThe official countdown is underway for the Endeavour Fund supported Turn to Starboard Round Britain Challenge, with just three weeks to go. On Saturday August 5, a team of veterans affected by military operations will challenge their minds and bodies by sailing 2,000 miles around the British Isles on board a tall ship.
The 8-week voyage, which is also supported by The Royal Marines Charity, will set sail from Falmouth in a clockwise direction and navigate Britain’s spectacular coastline visiting places such as Liverpool, Tobermory, Isle of Skye, Newcastle and Ipswich.

Turn to Starboard – a charity that help injured veterans by taking them sailing – hosted the event at Boscawen Park in Malpas near Truro on Sunday July 9 in front of hundreds of spectators.
Thirteen teams in different levels of fancy dress and ranging in age from adults to young children competed for top scores in a series of inflatable obstacle challenges.
Events included having to dive through a foam-filled inflatable tunnel while carrying a piece of a jigsaw before having to stick the piece on an inflatable wall and solving a puzzle.

On Saturday 22 July Charlotte Harvey, Charlotte Mackintosh, Jamie Clapton and Ian Hoy, four employees from the charity’s Shropshire based treatment centre, Audley Court, will join forces with Danny Hirst, a Combat Stress supporter to run as many 9k loops as possible within a 24 hour timeframe.
