Updates from the Forces Welfare Media Team

The Forces Welfare Media Team has been in the South West, finding out how the RFEA has helped a former Royal Marine into a rewarding civilian job with a demolition firm in Plymouth.

They’ve also filmed with two charities that have been helped by grants from the Royal British Legion. The team joined veterans and servicemen and women leaving the forces as they learned building and decorating skills with Building Heroes and braved chilly Cornish waters for a day at the beach with Surf Action and a group of forces families.

OA confirms Employment Symposium in York, 28th June 2017

The OA will run the first of two Employment Symposia this year, the first of which will be held at the Network Rail Training Centre, York.

The Employment Symposium will bring together key employers – both regional and national, industry experts and OA network contacts and supporters to provide a day of industry expertise and insight for those in transition and those looking to take the next steps in their second career.

The Value of Attending Insight Days

During your transition journey you’re likely to hear a lot of talk about the importance of attending networking events, careers fairs, online tutorials and insight days. Insight days are often overlooked. Attending them can be seen as a bit of a ‘luxury’ yet these events are run by employers with the specific purpose of giving you a ‘taster’ into their sector or more specifically, their organisation, and can be seen as a useful stepping stone in helping you get to where you want to be.

Expanding Durham charity welcomes new staff

Durham based charity Finchale has announced a raft of new appointments to support its ambitious growth plans in the North East. The independent charity, which was originally founded in 1943 as a rehabilitation and resettlement centre for service personnel returning from active service, provides health, training and employment opportunities for people excluded and isolated due to multiple disadvantages.

On Thursday 27th April, X-Forces’ Chairman, Martin Wing, was amongst the project leadership team awarded the Management Consultancies Association (MCA) prestigious Project of the Year Award. Martin has been a consultant for over 20 years working for US based Kepner-Tregoe and most recently Brazilian firm, Integration Management Consulting.

Soldiers’ Charity grant helps to Revitalise respite holidays for Army veterans and carers

This year, thanks to an increased grant of £51,684 given by ABF The Soldiers’ Charity to Revitalise, a charity providing much-needed respite holidays for disabled people and those who care for them, 146 disabled Army veterans and their carers will receive well-deserved holiday breaks with care.
