Haig’s Latest Building Project

Long term plans to turn a derelict cafe and warden’s house into eight 1-bedroom homes for single ex-Service persons in Morden, is progressing well on site. The homes will be in a U-shaped courtyard arrangement and be named “Parry Court”, after Mr John Parry, past Chairman of Haig Trustees from 2001 – 2005, and Trustee from 1992.

Launch of new online resource challenges employers to think differently about taking on ex-Service personnel

The Poppy Factory – the charity that helps injured ex-Service men and women find work – has launched a new online toolkit for employers.

The Employer Toolkit, funded by Forces in Mind Trust (FiMT), gives advice and guidance to employers, helping them to manage a workforce with complex health conditions – and aims to dispel the negative stereotypes of veterans and the problems they may face.

Veterans’ mental health charity Combat Stress to host business symposium

Educating businesses about the mental health treatment and support available to the veterans they employ is the focus of this year’s The Military Mind business symposium, sponsored by Thales UK.

Hosted by Combat Stress, the UK’s leading mental health charity for veterans, the event on 9 May coincides with Mental Health Awareness Week and will explain how and why some ex-service personnel and reservists develop mental health issues, and what their employers can do to help support them at work.

OA Extends Military Skills Agenda with new London based Employers Knowledge Swap event

The OA are to repeat the success of previous employer insight days by bringing together employers looking to translate military skills within the civilian workplace.

Employers Knowledge Swap events set out to explore how a business is able to translate the skills gained in the military when seeking to attract, select and develop talent within their own organisations. The next OA Employers Knowledge Swap event will take place on 24th May, in London.

Stoll recommit to honour the Armed Forces Covenant with Chief of Defence People visit

The Chief of Defence People, Lieutenant General Richard Nugee CVO CBE, has visited Stoll to meet beneficiaries of the charity. He had a tour of Stoll’s Fulham site which is home to over 150 Veterans and the centre of a large number of charities offering services to Veterans. General Nugee was at Stoll to witness the charity recommit to honour the Armed Forces Covenant and support the Armed Forces Community.

Personal Reflections of The Falklands War

On 16 March, at St John’s Place Lower Bemerton Salisbury, the Wiltshire Alabaré Ambassadors held a fundraising evening entitled “Personal Reflections from the Falklands War and its Aftermath”. Overall nearly 120 were present and in excess of £2,500 was raised for Alabaré.

The official guests were the Mayor of Salisbury, Derek Brown OBE, Brigadier Hodder, CEO of the Wessex Reserve Forces Cadets Association, Wing Commander Vincent Thomas, Second in Command at Boscombe Down and Major Richard Rimmington MBE, Royal Logistic Corp. The major sponsors were the Mark Allen Group, Chemring Countermeasures and Our Wilton.
