8th February 2018: Networking Event – Forces into Health – London

Join Forces into Health for their first networking evening of 2018. The group was formed in response to a growing number of Service Leavers who have either transitioned, or are thinking of transitioning, into the Health Sector. The Forces into Health network will aim to support individuals with contacts, advice and information, wherever possible. In particular, it signposts opportunities and recommends ‘points of entry’.

Are you ready for the 24-hour life raft survival challenge?

It will be cold, it could get windy, and it will definitely be wet!

A Cornish sailing charity is calling out for intrepid individuals prepared to leave their home comforts and spend 24 hours in a life raft for charity.

On Friday May 18, a team of brave volunteers will climb into an inflatable life raft and be floated out into Falmouth Harbour to battle the wind and waves. The day-long challenge aims to raise funds for Turn to Starboard, a sailing charity supporting Armed Forces personnel affected by military operations.

Great British Bake Off winner Sophie Faldo becomes ambassador for Combat Stress

After baking her way to victory in last year’s Channel 4 Great British Bake Off, winner Sophie Faldo from Surrey is now helping to raise awareness of veterans’ mental health by becoming an ambassador for Combat Stress.

In December last year she visited Combat Stress, the UK’s leading charity for veterans’ mental health, at their treatment centre in Leatherhead, Surrey, to find out how the charity supports former servicemen and women.

Sophie is a former Army officer and served with the Royal Artillery in Afghanistan.

Your Armed Forces Community Needs You!

SSAFA urgently calls for new volunteers to support veterans who are feeling lonely and isolated

The latest research by SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, has found that more than two in five (41%) veterans aged 25-45 have felt lonely, isolated, or suicidal since leaving the Armed Forces. With one in five (22%) veterans stating that they would feel less lonely if they had a stronger support group.

In a bid to meet this need and ensure no veteran’s call goes unanswered, SSAFA is urgently appealing to local residents to join its network of dedicated volunteers and provide support for the Armed Forces community.

RFEA – The Forces Employment Charity and Walking With The Wounded become first UK Charities to receive Call of Duty Endowment Seal of Distinction Awards

The Call of Duty™ Endowment (“the Endowment”) is proud to announce the selection of RFEA – The Forces Employment Charity and Walking With The Wounded as the first UK recipients of the Call of Duty™ Endowment Seal of Distinction, the standard of excellence in the veterans’ employment sector. Winners each receive a $30,000 unrestricted grant and the opportunity to apply for additional funding, advice, and support.

“Meaningful employment is the single most important way to ensure that service members successfully transition back to civilian life,” said Dan Goldenberg, Executive Director of the Call of Duty Endowment.
