ABF The Soldiers’ Charity signature fundraiser, THE BIG CURRY set to return to Durham

On Friday 20th October a spicy fundraiser will be taking place from 12 noon at Durham based charity Finchale’s headquarters in Pity Me, to raise money for soldiers and veterans in need of assistance across the region.

For the second year running organisers from Finchale are extending a ‘hot’ invitation to diners to join them for a bit of fun and a relaxed opportunity to enjoy some fantastic food whilst making a difference. All proceeds from the event will go to ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, the National Charity of the British Army providing support to soldiers, veterans and their families.

Another brilliant Troop Aid ball!

The atmosphere was electric when over 350 guests gathered at the National Conference Centre, home of the National Motorcycle Museum in Solihull for Troop Aid’s highest profile event of the year, the Annual Ball. A registered charity, Troop Aid’s patron is HRH The Prince of Wales.

All were greeted upon arrival by a guard of honour. From young Sea Cadets to current military personnel, from members of the Royal British Legion to a Chelsea Pensioner, the evening appealed to everyone who was keen to support the Midlands based charity that supports our injured service troops.

Mental Health First Aid is for everyone

You would probably know what to do if your colleague became physically ill. But would you know what to do if someone suffered from poor mental health?

Approximately 10 million work days are lost in the UK due to poor mental health, costing the UK economy around £100 billion each year. This problem is not restricted to the workplace as on average 3 children in every classroom have a mental health issue.

We at DMWS Training therefore believe that every workplace, including schools, should have a Mental Health First Aider as well as a physical First Aider.

New Forces in Mind Trust Award: Assessing Public Attitudes towards ex-Service Personnel in Northern Ireland via the Northern Ireland Life and Times Survey (NILTS)

Forces in Mind Trust (FiMT) has awarded a grant of £31,500 to Ulster University, to produce a report on public attitudes towards ex-Service personnel in Northern Ireland.

Currently there is no evidence base which provides insight into how the general public view ex-Service personnel in the region. While work has been done to assess public attitudes towards policing in the years following the Good Friday Agreement, there is no equivalent for ex-Service personnel.

The report will be based on answers generated from the Northern Ireland Life and Times Survey (NILTS), the largest public attitudes survey in NI, and covers a range of modules on community relations and attitude towards particular groups in the region.

Manchester, join Walking With The Wounded at Be At One Manchester on 13 Barton Arcade for an informal drinks evening with an update on the charity and hear how you can become an ambassador for our Walking Home For Christmas campaign.

Military charity Walking With The Wounded (WWTW) is estimating it will treble the number of ex-servicemen and women it supports in 2018, following a 97% increase last year to more than 1,000. With Christmas fast approaching, for many a time of financial pressure and loneliness, more ex-service personnel than ever require support.

The research has also focused on the current size and shape of our UK Maritime Charity Sector and our overall financial health. There are many challenges ahead and we look forward to sharing our findings with you on October 16th & 17th 2017.

For the 8th year in a row, ABF The Soldiers’ Charity continues to support the wonderful work that Alabaré’s Homes for Veterans offers with a grant of £140,000. Their support for service men and women across the UK who have left active service and who are experiencing difficulty adapting to civilian life is remarkable.
