The service leavers guide offers information and advice prior to and after leaving regular service.

The guide contains information about armed forces pensions, resettlement, reserve liability and support from charitable organisations.

Of particular importance to service leavers is the Pen 1 form which should be completed at the 6 month point prior to your last day of service using the link on your JPA account.

Day care service brings local veterans together

The Star & Garter Club, a new day care service for veterans, is helping to tackle loneliness in the Solihull area. The service is provided by The Royal Star & Garter Homes, a charity which provides specialist residential care to veterans and their partners living with disability or dementia.

Norma is a guest who has been attending since the service started. She commented, “It’s fantastic here. Where I live I don’t get to talk to many people, so it really makes a difference coming here and having lots of people to chat with. My family are very happy knowing that I’m mixing with people.”

Tackling the Jurassic Coast Challenge in memory of a bomb disposal hero

On the 11th December 2017, Christopher Legg, an Ammunition Technician in the Royal Logistic Corps was tragically killed in a road traffic accident while serving in Canada.

Chris’ family; wife, sister, father and uncle are tackling the Jurassic Coast challenge in July to raise money for Felix Fund in his memory.

Taking on the 42km walk from Weymouth to Bridport they hope to raise a substantial sum which will go towards helping Chris’ friends and colleagues, both still serving and those who have since left the military.

Partnership between Help for Heroes and Essex Wildlife Trust grows

A growing partnership between Help for Heroes and Essex Wildlife Trust has this week broken new ground.

The military charity and conservation charity have been working together for several years. Over the last six months a new project has seen Help for Heroes veterans, their families and volunteers coppicing hazels from Essex Wildlife Trust land. They have then been taught the new skill of weaving hazel hurdle fences which are being installed into the ‘Hope on the Horizon’ garden at Colchester Recovery Centre on Wednesday.

£10,000 prize to be granted to the winner of the Heropreneurs Veterans’ Foundation Award

All too many veterans find leaving the Armed Forces, and returning to civvy street, a huge struggle due to physical injuries and mental health issues. This may result in homelessness, unemployment, family breakdown, and a dramatic deterioration in their well-being. The Veterans’ Foundation is a charity that was created to raise funds for military-related charities and other organisations that do excellent and effective work in helping veterans in need. This Heropreneurs Award category seeks to recognise an individual in civvy street, or a business, that has given outstanding help to such veterans.

Luke crowned People’s Choice winner at Soldiering On Awards

RAF veteran and Invictus athlete Luke Delahunty has been crowned this year’s People’s Choice award winner at the Soldiering On Awards. Luke was announced as this year’s winner at the special event held in London which recognises the achievements of those who have served their country and the diverse people and groups who work in support of the Armed Forces community.

The RAF’s leading welfare charity, the RAF Benevolent Fund, who has supported Luke for more than 22 years, nominated him for this prestigious award in light of his outstanding contribution to other spinal injury victims.

Calling Notice – Cenotaph Remembrance Parade 11th November 2018 – Headley Court Charity

The Headley Court Charity was established in 1940 and in 1947 decided to acquire the estate at Headley Court in Surrey for the purpose of providing a facility for the medical rehabilitation of pilots and aircrew of the Royal Air Force. The facility opened in 1949 and the objects of the charity have since expanded to provide medical rehabilitation for all members of the armed forces.

This year the clinical facility will move to a new purpose built facility at Stanford Hall in the East Midlands and the MOD will vacate Headley Court.

Veterans’ mental health charity Combat Stress to host business symposium

The power and potential of veterans in the workplace is the focus of this year’s free-to-attend Military Mind business symposium.

Sponsored by Thales and presented by Combat Stress, the UK’s leading charity for veterans’ mental health, the symposium will explore practical ways companies can ensure the workplace wellbeing of their veteran and reservist employees.

Held on 15 May in London and 17 May in Edinburgh, the event coincides with Mental Health Awareness Week and will centre on what support companies can implement, regardless of their size or sector.

A new website, developed by the Directory of Social Change (DSC), for exploring Armed Forces Charities in the UK goes live today, Thursday 26th April. The online directory has information, statistics, infographics and unique research on hundreds of charities serving thousands of people.

The Forces in Mind Trust funded website is a key resource for policy makers, researchers, media, governments and charities – or anyone with an interest in the UK’s Armed Forces charities.
