Walking With The Wounded welcomed Expedition Patron, Prince Harry, back to Canada Street in Manchester to see what had been achieved since the major DIY SOS transformation took place in 2015.
The ‘Veterans Village’ – once a dilapidated street on the outskirts of Manchester, is now home to some ex-servicemen and women who initially struggled with the transition back into civvy-live after leaving the Armed Forces.

“The five families are all patients from the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre (DMRC) at Headley Court, which aims to return all those service personnel injured or seriously ill to full fitness. DMRC is a nationally recognised centre of excellence that provides rehabilitation for more complex injuries, including amputee and neurological patients.

Read moreThree Modern naval heroes will be honoured on Sunday 10 September at the Naval Associations’ Biennial Parade at the Cenotaph by the dedication of 3 wheelchair accessible minibuses provided by the LIBOR fund. Witnessed by 500 naval veterans, a naval volunteer band, 70 sailors in the final stages of their professional training, sea cadets and 60 standards. The buses will be used to assist socially isolated veterans get out and about, including going to the pub!

Read moreThree chefs who were crowned the Crème de la Crème by the BBC earlier this year have helped to raise a sweet total for the RAF Benevolent Fund, the RAF’s leading welfare charity.
The trio, led by 30-year-old Corporal Liam Grime, created 1,150 desserts and an incredible chocolate centrepiece which featured the Fund’s roundel logo. A selection of 11 different sweets including entremets, macarons, tropical flavours, chocolate and crumbles were sold at RAF Odiham’s Families Day last Thursday (24 August) to raise £860.

The 31-year-old is planning to run her very first road race, a half marathon distance, in tribute to the help the RAF’s leading welfare charity gave to her late grandmother Leading Aircraftswoman Edna Lacey. Edna lost her leg to bone cancer shortly after leaving the RAF following service during the Second World War. But she did not need to use a wheelchair until a second battle with cancer affected her mobility.
