In the run up to Seafarers Awareness Week, 24-30 June, primary school children are learning that bananas are only available in the UK thanks to ships and seafarers.

Seafarers UK, the charity that coordinates and promotes Seafarers Awareness Week, has partnered with leading fruit importer Fyffes to provide free educational resources for 24,000 schools.

An Iraq War Veteran is set to battle a gruelling muddy obstacle race for Military Charity

Hannah Campbell, who was injured whilst serving in Iraq, is taking on the Nuclear Races this May to help raise awareness for Military Charity, Blesma, the Limbless Veterans.

Blesma are partnering with Nuclear Races in Brentwood for their award winning fun, tough and gritty obstacle race on 13 May. With a Blesma dedicated wave at 12:40 and 500 places to fill, wounded Veterans are asking you to take part alongside them to complete this gruelling 7k race.

Longest serving blind veteran recognised after 75 years’ support from Blind Veterans UK

A 97 year old blind veteran from Sussex was recognised on Friday (10/03) as it was 75 years to the day that he started receiving support from St Dunstan’s, now known as Blind Veterans UK.

Norman Perry, who now lives at the Blind Veterans UK training and rehabilitation centre in Ovingdean, is the longest serving beneficiary of the charity alive today and one of the longest of all time.

Blind veteran Simon Brown shortlisted in the prestigious Sunday Express ‘People’s Choice’ category at Soldiering On Awards 2017

An Iraq War veteran who was blinded in conflict has been shortlisted in the prestigious ‘People’s Choice’ category sponsored by the Sunday Express in the seventh annual Soldiering On Awards.

Simon Brown, 38 and from Leeds, was nominated for the award by national military charity Blind Veterans UK, which has supported him since he lost his sight.

Wrexham mum to compete in Chain Runner challenge for military charity

A woman from Wrexham is preparing to take on a daunting 10km Chain Runner challenge, where contestants compete while chained to at least one other person, with the funds raised going to Blind Veterans UK, the national charity for blind and vision-impaired ex-Service men and women.

Susie Trow, mother of one, has been working with a personal trainer since October and one of her main objectives has been to set a series of three month goals.

Lord Mayor of Portsmouth confronts fear of heights at Royal Navy charity HQ ahead of abseiling spectacle

The Lord Mayor of Portsmouth, Councillor David Fuller, tackled his fear of heights today (9th March) ahead of a charity abseiling challenge in aid of The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC).

During a visit to RNRMC headquarters on Whale Island, Portsmouth, Cllr Fuller visited the establishment’s tallest building in preparation for his upcoming challenge.

Forces Welfare Media Team – on the road again

The SSVC Forces Welfare Media Team have been on the road again, filming stories about the work of the Cobseo charities. In the last couple of weeks, they’ve produced videos, radio reports and online articles about the Life Skills programme at Blind Veterans UK’s Llandudno Centre, the expansion of SEAP’s advocacy services in Plymouth and plans for a new Veterans’ Village at Broughton House in Salford.

Give Us Time: an Opportunity for Families in need in May

Give Us Time takes holidays donated by owners of holiday groups, hotels, holiday homes and timeshares, and matches them with military families in need of rest, rehabilitation and reconnection so that they can be able to re-bond as a family.

We help both veterans and service personnel from all the services. Eligible to our services are those who are physically or mentally injured, have spent long periods of time away from their families, bereaved or in financial need.
