Staff from military charity to drive through 24 countries in five days to raise money for blind veterans

Two members of staff from a national military charity are preparing to drive through an incredible 24 countries in just five days. The funds raised will be going to the blind veterans their charity supports.

Chief of Staff, Nathan Muirhead and Head of Transport, Chris Kirk are both employees of Blind Veterans UK, the national charity for vision-impaired ex-Service men and women.

Man to sky dive for charity to celebrate 80th birthday

Daredevil, Brian Pate, from Hassocks, is about to celebrate his 80th birthday by completing a tandem sky dive on Thursday 4 May, in aid of The Queen Alexandra Hospital Home (QAHH) in Worthing.

Brian is no stranger to sky diving, being President of Surrey and Sussex Parachute Regiment Association. He explains, “I took part in a tandem jump for QAHH two years ago.

Blind veteran’s granddaughter from Salisbury completes London Marathon for military charity

A woman from Salisbury has finished the London Marathon for Blind Veterans UK, the national charity for blind and vision-impaired ex-Service men and women.

Marie Manning, 38 and originally from Llanfairfechan, Wales, completed the world famous course in six hours and 37 minutes. She says: “It was the toughest yet most rewarding thing I’ve ever done in my life. It felt amazing having people shout in support of the charity and helped me remember that I was doing some good while putting my body through all that pain!”

Supporting the family of a WWII pilot

When Deborah and her husband were worrying with the stress of her mum’s care home fees, they turned to the RAF Association for support.

Deborah’s dad was a pilot during WWII, staying in the air force for eight years. He met Deborah’s mum, Pat after leaving the Air Force and they were happily married for many years until he passed away, leaving Pat alone. Nowadays, Pat is sadly living with mixed dementia, she has had Alzheimer’s disease for many years, but when a stroke left her struggling with mobility, she was further diagnosed with vascular dementia.

Rosie & Martin Complete ‘The Toughest Footrace On Earth’

On April 15th our Head of Events Rosie Thompson and beneficiary Martin Wilson crossed the finish line of the Marathon Des Sables’ Fifth Stage. In doing so, they officially became ‘Finishers’ of the 32nd instalment of the famous endurance race, which sees competitors cross over 250km of the Moroccan Sahara Desert in just 6 days.
