During your transition journey you’re likely to hear a lot of talk about the importance of attending networking events, careers fairs, online tutorials and insight days. Insight days are often overlooked. Attending them can be seen as a bit of a ‘luxury’ yet these events are run by employers with the specific purpose of giving you a ‘taster’ into their sector or more specifically, their organisation, and can be seen as a useful stepping stone in helping you get to where you want to be.

Playwright from Mold to host illustrated talk for military charity

A playwright from Mold is set to host an illustrated talk on Soldier Poets of the First World War, with the proceeds going to Blind Veterans UK, the national charity for vision-impaired ex-Service men and women.

Micheal Stevens will be hosting the event on Monday 8 May at Mold Library, with the poetry being read out by a selection of actors. As a writer, he’s had plenty of experience in putting on similarly theatrical events. He says: “I mostly specialise in plays that are rooted in our local community, for instance the Mold Riots of 1869.

AFF Research Symposium: secure your place

The Army Families Federation (AFF) is to host a Research Symposium on Monday 5 June, following the success of their first symposium back in 2015.

The event, a collaboration between academics, subject matter experts, AFF and the MOD, will focus on the issues Army families face with the aim of further research being developed and a better understanding of this cohort.

First bricks laid on new Veterans’ housing in Aldershot

Armed Forces Veterans have laid the first bricks at Stoll’s new development in Aldershot. Stoll, the leading provider of Veterans’ housing and support, is building 34 new homes for vulnerable and disabled Veterans to rent. The new homes are being built on the site of the former care home on the edge of a nature reserve in suburban Aldershot to address the housing shortage faced by the nation’s ex-Service men and women. The new homes will be available to rent from March 2018.

Student from Abergele to climb Snowden blindfolded to support sight loss charity

An occupational therapy student from Abergele is preparing to climb Wales’ highest peak, Snowden, while completely blindfolded to raise awareness for Blind Veterans UK, the national charity for vision-impaired ex-Service men and women.

Izzy Jones, 19 and currently studying in York, will be embarking on the challenge on Sunday June 4.
