The Duke of Wellington celebrates a regimental milestone

Exclusive Apsley House Event Reveals Plans for Memorial Sculpture to mark 300 years of service

Arthur Charles Valerian Wellesley, 9th Duke of Wellington, welcomed a host of guests to his Apsley House residence on Tuesday 6th March, in aid of the Duke of Wellington’s Regiment Memorial Appeal.

The private drinks reception, held at ‘Number 1, London’, provided an exclusive unveiling of the memorial Maquette, created in honour of the Duke of Wellington’s Regiment’s 300 years of service to the Crown.

UK armed forces mental health care delivered in the primary healthcare setting 2013/14 to 2015/16 and AFCS awards for service attributable mental health 6 April 2005 to 31 March 2017

Statistics on UK armed forces personnel assessed with a mental disorder in primary health care and veterans with awards under the AFCS for service-attributable mental disorders.

This ad hoc statistical bulletin provides the number of UK armed forces personnel who were assessed and treated in primary health care for a mental disorder, looking to further understand how many of these were seen solely within primary health care and how many were referred to MOD Department of Community Mental health (DCMH) for specialist mental health treatment.

Tell me about your military career
I joined the Royal Navy as a warfare officer straight from university. I was lucky enough to spend several years doing what I joined up to do – frontline weather forecasting at sea as a hydrographic and meteorological specialist. Following an operations tour in Basra, I became a Principal Warfare Officer. I returned to my specialisation at the end of my career.

University regulator publishes guidance encouraging universities to include Service children in their support and outreach work

The SCiP Alliance has worked closely with the new government regulatory body for higher education, the Office For Students and its predecessor OFFA, to ensure Service children are considered alongside other underrepresented groups when universities formulate their outreach plans with their Widening Participation teams. Work by the SCiP Alliance and its partners is referenced in new guidance published by the OFS to inform institutions’ planning for 2019-20.

SSAFA Adoption Service celebrates LGBT Adoption Week

SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity is celebrating LGBT Adoption Week by reflecting on the developments of inclusion and diversity in its Adoption Service over the past year.

SSAFA runs an independent adoption agency that works with local authorities to provide support for anyone who is currently serving who wishes to create a family through adoption. The service has approved 328 military adopters since 1964 and offers lifelong support to families.
