£80,000 grant to SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity by RAF Benevolent Fund to support members of the RAF Family

The Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund has awarded a grant of £80,000 in September 2017 toward SSAFA’s Casework service and other services that alleviate need, suffering and distress.

Casework sits at the heart of SSAFA’s work and provides personalised, holistic support to those currently serving, reserves, ex-service men and women, and their families. In recent years their Casework service has seen increasing numbers of working age beneficiaries requiring help. These beneficiaries have complex needs, including financial hardship, mental wellbeing issues, inadequate housing and lack of employment.

X Factor stars bring festive cheer to bereaved Forces children at charity Christmas party

Over 150 bereaved Forces children were given a welcome surprise this weekend as X Factor stars, Holly Tandy and Leon Mallett joined them at the annual Scotty’s Little Soldiers Christmas Party.

The singers, who were part of this year’s competition, were joined by Britain’s Got Talent Magician and Scotty’s Little Soldiers ambassador Lance Corporal Richard Jones at a magical event exclusively for children who have lost a parent while serving in the Armed Forces.

Members gathered with their families at the PGL adventure centre in Caythorpe, Grantham on Saturday (2nd) for a day of game show themed fun.

The Army Families Federation (AFF) is appealing to all Army families to take their latest survey and say whether they feel the package offered to them eases the impact that Service life can have. The charity is exploring various elements of the current package, or ‘Offer’ available to families, and how they translate to Army family life. This includes how aware families are of policies such as subsidised military housing, educational allowances, and healthcare policies such as support with assisted conception.

Over 300 bereaved Forces Children enjoyed a welcome break this year thanks to Scotty’s Little Soldiers

Over 300 bereaved Armed Forces children across the UK received some much-needed respite this year, thanks to supporters and donations made to children’s Armed Forces charity, Scotty’s Little Soldiers.

The holidays, which are provided to all Scotty’s Little Soldiers members as part of its Smiles programme, are an integral part of the charity’s support network. They allow families time to spend together and help them create new, happy memories.

During 2017, 185 members enjoyed a weekend at one of Scotty’s six premium lodges located in Great Yarmouth, Berwick Upon Tweed, Blackpool, Exmouth, Hastings and Poole.
