Read moreA recent email from a family, who benefitted from our services, has highlighted once again how a break away can really help in the recovery process. Glen suffers from PTSD and his respite break at the Heroes Haven Swanage was the chance for him and his family to reconnect after a long period of suffering and hardship.
“Heroes Haven Swanage was a very relaxing location and allowed me to gather my thoughts”, Glen explained, “I even started to write poetry in the gardens as I truly found peace. I have added the poem I wrote in the garden at Heroes Haven.”
Read moreThe Army Families Federation (AFF) is once again back on the road, this time in Paderborn, Germany, to meet families, listen to their concerns and answer their questions.
The AFF Germany roadshow takes place on Wednesday 18 October at Montgomery’s, Barker Barracks, from 10.30am until 1pm. The event is FREE to attend and all are welcome to what will be a positive, family-friendly day.
AFF representatives attending will include their Education, Housing and Foreign & Commonwealth Specialists as well as their Germany team.
Red, White and Blue Day is a national fundraising campaign for schools that raises money in support of the RAF Benevolent Fund, ABF The Soldiers’ Charity and The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity. The money raised is split between the three long-established charities which all have close ties with our Armed Forces.
This year’s campaign will take place on Friday 6 October, with thousands of school children across the UK dressing up in red, white and blue in support of the men and women of the Armed Forces.

SCISS is an affiliation of the 6000 plus state maintained schools in England that have children of service personnel on roll. The SCISS National Executive acts as an advisory group to the government on issues around educational disadvantage and promotes good practice in the provision of education for service children.

Read moreA new initiative by the Aggie Weston’s Storybook Waves project has secured funding from the Annington Trust of over £40,000 for the next three years. Launching at the end of September 2017, the ‘Storybook Waves Book Club in a Box’ initiative seeks to relieve the anxiety of separation that families experience by connecting them through books and a nationwide network of Book Clubs.
Held in community houses at 21 base port areas, the Book Clubs will generally be hosted by Aggie Weston’s Pastoral Workers and will run monthly during term time. Aimed primarily at families of deployed personnel, The Book Clubs will seek to bring families together for fun-filled activity sessions based around the theme of a popular children’s book. While children play, parents can socialise and Pastoral Workers will be on hand to provide support and a listening ear to anyone struggling with the challenges that deployment can bring.
Read moreFrom RAF Benson to RAF Wyton, the RAF Benevolent Fund has spent almost £50,000 in its second year of support for station families’ days.
The annual events are a much-loved date on the calendar when serving personnel are given the opportunity to share their working life with their loved ones. Families are able to relax and recuperate within their own community, without the pressure of operations, which is particularly important on stations where personnel are deployed short notice.
The RAF Benevolent Fund made grants to 34 stations, awarding a total of £47,000 to support the events.

“The five families are all patients from the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre (DMRC) at Headley Court, which aims to return all those service personnel injured or seriously ill to full fitness. DMRC is a nationally recognised centre of excellence that provides rehabilitation for more complex injuries, including amputee and neurological patients.
