Another BIG success for the Forces Pension Society

In yet another significant campaigning triumph the Society has successfully argued the case for reinstating the “Short-Term Family Pension”.

The Short-Term Family Pension is a special payment made immediately following bereavement under the 1975 scheme – the widow or widower or civil partner will continue to receive pensionable pay (or full pension, if in payment) for three or six months following the death of the scheme member. This has always been seen as a way of providing short-term financial support at a very difficult time.

New Gurkha Services team up and running

The new team managing the Gurkha Services project at SSAFA is now in place. The initiative is funded by money from the Libor banking fines. Their aim is to work with all SSAFA local branches and divisions, where there is a Gurkha community, to share best practice and useful information and provide relevant training – ultimately to improve the provisions in place for Gurkhas and their families.

More information: According to the Gurkha Welfare Trust, there are an estimated 12,794 retired Gurkha’s settled in the UK with their families. Our experience shows that Gurkha veterans have complex needs, including many who are elderly and infirm with low literacy levels.

DIY SOS is back supporting our veterans

The team returns to the Veterans Village to finish the extraordinary project which originated from a chance meeting between Nick and WWTW’s Founder & CEO, Ed Parker.

The project started two years ago, building homes for veterans and revitalising a community.

Once a dilapidated street on the outskirts of Manchester, the street is now home to some ex-servicemen and women who initially struggled with the transition back into civvy-life after leaving the Armed Forces.
