HRH Princess Alexandra visits disabled veterans to mark Solihull Home’s 10th anniversary

Residents and staff were delighted to welcome Her Royal Highness Princess Alexandra when she visited The Royal Star & Garter Home in Solihull. The visit was part of a day of celebrations to mark the Home’s 10th anniversary.

The Princess was received by the Charity’s Chairman, Major General Tim Tyler, The High Sheriff of West Midlands, Mr Christopher Loughran, and his wife, Mrs Jane Loughran, Deputy Lieutenant Professor Nigel Thrift, the Mayor of Solihull, Mrs Flo Nash, and the Mayor’s Consort, Mr Alan Nash.

All the fun of the fayre, in aid of disabled veterans

There will be bunting galore on Boundary Road, Worthing on Saturday 14 July, as Care for Veterans opens its doors to the public for its Summer Fayre!
The charity’s annual event is held to raise money for the local charity, which cares for disabled ex-Service personnel and their families. Care for Veterans strives to improve the mobility and independence of its residents through rehabilitation services such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy and social and recreation activities.

ABF The Soldiers’ Charity awards Combat Stress a grant of £350,000

Combat Stress has been awarded a grant of £350,000 from ABF The Soldiers’ Charity to support the work it does to help veterans with mental health problems.

In the last decade, the veterans’ mental health charity has seen a 143% increase in referrals. Combat Stress research, NHS England and the Ministry of Defence all estimate a continued increase in the number of veterans seeking help for mental health issues.

This summer, Housing Options Scotland will be holding free drop in events all over the country to give housing information, advice and support to disabled people, older people, disabled veterans and those who support them, and we might be coming to a town near you!
At these drop in events there will be presentations throughout the day on housing, information stalls from local and national organisations working with disabled people, older people, disabled veterans and those who support them.

Scotland rugby star launches Poppyscotland fundraiser

Scotland star helping veterans bounce back

Scotland and Edinburgh Rugby star Hamish Watson hopped to it yesterday to help launch a brand new family fundraiser in aid of leading Armed Forces charity Poppyscotland.

The Big Poppy Bounce will see supporters of all ages descend upon BT Murrayfield to climb aboard space hoppers and race 100 metres – for 100 years – to help our veterans bounce back into civilian life in the process.

The Big Poppy Bounce will take place over the back pitches at the iconic home of Scottish Rugby on Sunday, 19th August, and it is hoped the fun day out will raise in excess of £10,000 to support Poppyscotland’s life-changing work for the Armed Forces community living in Scotland.

A busy week at The NFA

Last Thursday was an eventful day for The Not Forgotten Association with 12 beneficiaries attending the Founder’s Day Parade at The Royal Hospital Chelsea, before joining a further 2,500 veterans at Buckingham Palace for our Garden Party in the afternoon. Not only is the parade a sight to behold, but it was an honour and privilege for the group to be presented to His Royal Highness Prince Michael of Kent. We’d like to take this opportunity to thank The Royal Hospital Chelsea for their kind invitiation!

The Walk Of America 2018 is officially underway!

A team of wounded veterans have embarked on a 1,000 mile journey across America to spread awareness of military mental health, and raise vital funds to support those suffering from the invisible wounds of war. In order to reflect Expedition Patron Prince Harry’s vision that those who serve together should heal together, the team includes veterans from both the UK and the US.

John Mayhead is walking the first 2 weeks of the expedition. Like many on the team, he suffers from PTSD, chronic depression and anxiety. Here he talks about the struggles, both physical and mental, that the team have faced along the way.

Rory Underwood to Inspire Veteran Success at OA Bristol Networking Event

The former England rugby star and RAF officer will share his career journey and insight with serving and former officers.

Rory Underwood MBE is a legendary international rugby player, scoring a record 49 tries for England, winning six caps for the British Lions and playing at Leicester Tigers for 14 years. He also spent 18 years as a pilot in the RAF, spending more than 3,000 hours flying Tornados, Canberras, Hawks and Domines. Rory is now an experienced facilitator, psychometric profiler and performance coach.
