RBL Branch growing a new legacy for Jersey

The Jersey branch of The Royal British Legion and local plant supplier, Jersey Plants Direct, invited local schoolchildren and dignitaries – including Jersey’s Lieutenant Governor Air Chief Marshal Sir Stephen Dalton and his wife Lady Dalton – to plant their very own poppies and express their thanks for the World War One generation by remembering the fallen in this centenary year.

At an event that took place at the Cenotaph (St Helier Memorial) on Tuesday 13th March, pupils from Helvetia House School were able to plant Flanders poppies donated by Jersey Plants Direct, a local grower, and kick off a year of planned events by the Legion on the island.

Buckinghamshire Scouts join forces with the Legion

Buckinghamshire-based Lane End Scout Group have joined together to raise money for The Royal British Legion in a partnership that is recognised as the first affiliation between the two organisations in the region.

The Lane End Scout Group, based in the village within the Wycombe district, have chosen to partner with the local branch to raise funds for The Royal British Legion due to the group’s close links with the Armed Forces community. All team members have either served, have family members who have served and, in one case, are currently a serving member of the armed forces.

DMWS meet MPs at Westminster

The Defence Medical Welfare Service (DMWS) was delighted to meet MPs, Councillors and representatives from charitable organisations at Portcullis House on Tuesday, 20 March 2018. The lunch reception gave the charity the opportunity to highlight the positive impact DMWS has on the well-being of fronline staff and their families during times of ill health, as well as talk about the charity’s vision of the future. Host of the event was Mrs Anne-Marie Tervelyan, MP for Berwick-upon-Tweed, who is passionate about the welfare of veterans and serving members of the Armed Forces and a key advocate of the Charity’s work.

AFF celebrates visa success on behalf of F&C Army families

The Army Families Federation (AFF) is delighted that after five years of lobbying on their behalf, Foreign & Commonwealth (F&C) Army families should now find the process of applying for a visa to enter the UK much easier and fairer, thanks to the addition of an ‘Armed Forces’ option on the form.

Since 2013, when the new Armed Forces immigration rules came into effect, all non-EEA family members of soldiers wishing to apply for a visa to enter the UK have had to use an online form.

Reading Force launch at Colinton Primary School with VIP Vivian French

On Wednesday 7th March Reading Force launched at Colinton Primary School, Edinburgh, with special guest author, Vivian French. Vivian has written 300 children’s books, including the The Cherry Pie Princess, the Knights in Training series, and most recently Robe of Skulls.

As well as giving the children an inspiring and fun day with a real-life author, the launch raised awareness of Reading Force, the shared reading charity for military families, and how children and families can get involved.
