Service group raises more than £1,100 for Poppyscotland

A local service group that helps individuals with learning difficulties has raised almost £1,200 for leading Armed Forces charity Poppyscotland.

The group, which supports individuals with learning difficulties to be more independent through organised activities, chose to support Poppyscotland due to the fact that 2018 is the centenary year of the signing of the Armistice that led to the end of the First World War.

Local Gurkha Culture Day held at Shorncliffe Garrison, organised by SSAFA, the Armed Forced Charity

On July 19th, Shorncliffe Garrison in Folkstone played host to a Gurkha Culture Day, designed to break down misconceptions and create a friendly environment to learn about this vital part of our Armed Forces. The day included a myth-busting session, insight into the process of becoming a Gurkha, what it’s like to be a Gurkha wife, how a Gurkha veteran finds life in the UK and what’s going on in the Gurkha community locally.

MOD employment support trial empowers spouses of Service personnel

A new evaluation of the Ministry of Defence’s (MOD) Spouse Employment Support (SES) Trial has shown the advantages of supporting spouses of Service personnel. The evaluation, funded by Forces in Mind Trust (FiMT), and conducted by Anglia Ruskin University, reviewed how spouses progressed when given specific support to improve their chances of employment.

Adrian Bell succeeds Robert Robson as Chief Executive at the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity

The Board of Trustees of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity is delighted to announce the
appointment of Adrian Bell as the new Chief Executive to succeed Robert Robson.

Adrian joins the charity after eight years as Chief Executive of the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air
Ambulance, following a long career with the Royal Navy during which he commanded three warships
and concluded with command of British Forces in Gibraltar.
