Read moreArmed Forces children’s charity, Scotty’s Little Soldiers, is calling on people across the UK to get their hats on for charity this Christmas and support the children our fallen heroes left behind.
Scotty’s Bobble Hat Day will take place on Friday 8th December, and the charity is asking people of all ages to make a big difference to a bereaved child this Christmas, by making just a small donation.
Scotty’s Little Soldiers was set up in 2010 by war widow Nikki Scott following the death of her husband and father to her two children, Corporal Lee Scott.

Members of the Armed Forces community, including veterans, attended the poignant event, organised by Legion Scotland, to remember those who have fallen in conflicts. Frank Ross, the Right Honourable Lord Provost of the City of Edinburgh, led a special group of wreath-layers at an event that was open to the public. The ‘Poppy Bus’ – provided by Lothian Buses and appropriately numbered 11 – halted beside the Garden of Remembrance at 11am.
Read moreOn Monday 6 November, soldiers from 12 Regiment, Royal Artillery based at Thorney Island, joined Worthing Mayor, Cllr Alex Harman, to open the Garden of Remembrance at Worthing Town Hall.
The soldiers, along with representatives of local charity, Care for Veterans, local dignitaries, military associations and schools, attended the ceremony to launch Remembrance Week, which honours those members of the armed forces who have been killed in conflict.
Following the ceremony, the soldiers returned to Care for Veterans to meet with the veterans the charity cares for, which has now become an annual tradition.

Louis Nethercott, 28, of Wiltshire, will today begin his trek across Madagascar, travelling east to west following the historical lighthouses scattered across the coastline. He will be relying solely on human power to do so. He is being supported in his world record attempt by military charity, Help for Heroes, who have grant funded £10,000 for the expedition, the likes of which has never been attempted before.
