Blind veteran gardener from Berkhamsted visits military charity’s Hampton Court show garden

A blind veteran from Berkhamsted who receives vital support from Blind Veterans UK, the national charity for vision-impaired ex-Service men and women, has visited the charity’s gold medal-winning show garden at the prestigious RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show this July.

Stanley Grace, 88 and from Northchurch, visited the garden as part of a special week of gardening activities for blind veterans with green fingers held at the Blind Veterans UK training and rehabilitation centre in Brighton.

RAF Halton visits disabled veterans living at The Royal Star & Garter Homes

Residents at The Royal Star & Garter Homes recently welcomed RAF servicemen and women when they recently visited the Surbiton Home.

Residents were delighted to welcome the Training Staff, Aircraftmen and Women currently stationed at RAF Halton to share an afternoon participating in various activities. After a tour of the Home, they joined in with Tai Chi, followed by a piano led sing-along.

Plans unveiled for Broughton House Veterans Care Village

Plans have been unveiled for a £12.5m Veterans Care Village at Broughton House in Salford.

Broughton House is the only home for ex-servicemen and women in the north west and in 2016 celebrated its centenary.

Plans for the new village will be submitted to Salford City Council this month and are expected to be considered by the planning, building and regeneration committee in September.

If permission is granted, work on the ambitious scheme is due to start early next year. A public consultation exercise is currently underway.

Blind veteran from Norwich welcomes visitors to military charity’s Hampton Court show garden

A blind veteran from Norwich who receives vital support from Blind Veterans UK, the national charity for vision-impaired ex-Service men and women, visited the charity’s show garden at the prestigious RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show last week.

Chris Humphrey, 65 and from Thorpe End, volunteered as an ambassador for Blind Veterans UK and encouraged anyone who could receive support from the charity to get in touch.

After joining the Royal Navy in 1967, Chris was first employed as a Junior Radio Operator on HMS Raleigh. He says: “I completed my initial training on HMS Raleigh, before completing my Branch Training on HMS Mercury.
