OA Attends Cenotaph Service

Richard Sankey, an OA Trustee, attended the Remembrance Sunday service in central London.

The Prince of Wales laid a poppy wreath on behalf of the Queen, who watched for the first time from a Foreign Office balcony. She was joined by the Duke of Edinburgh and the Duchess of Cornwall. The Duke of Cambridge and Prince Harry also attended, alongside other members of the Royal Family.

Across the UK a two-minute silence was held, and poppy wreaths were laid at war memorials to remember those who died in conflict.

Prince Harry opens 89th Field of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey 70,000 Remembrance Symbols planted by The Poppy Factory 

Prince Harry will open the 89th Field of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey, to remember those in the Armed Forces who have lost their lives, on Thursday 9th November at 11.00 am.

Organised and run by The Poppy Factory every year, the Field will have 380 plots laid out in the names of military organisations and associations on the North Green of the Abbey. Remembrance symbols, made by veterans working at the factory in Richmond, are planted in these plots, often with hand written messages, from family, friends or colleagues.

The Royal Tank Regiment, the oldest tank unit in the world, will commemorate 100 years since the Battle of Cambrai

In late November the Royal Tank Regiment will mark 100 years since the first large scale tank action with special events taking place in London and Cambrai in Northern France. The Battle of Cambrai in 1917 changed the history of warfare forever with the first large-scale use of tanks in battle.

The Royal Tank Regiment, started out as a top secret band of trades from all walks of life, who were brought together in the Tank Corps to break the stalemate of trench warfare. They soon evolved into a unit which revolutionised combat and has deployed on all major conflicts over the last 100 years.

Supporting Wounded Veterans’ Pain Management Programme

Supporting Wounded Veterans’ Pain Management Programme run at, and in conjunction with, King Edward’s VII’s hospital, has now completed its first year of residential programmes. It is going from strength to strength, with on average 130 applications for every 10 places. We have also opened a Pain Clinic, where Veterans can come not only for advice on how to manage their pain, but also have a medication review.

Jaguar Land Rover received the Officers’ Association (OA) ward for Excellence in Work Experience Programmes at the BSI Resettlement Awards.

The BSI Resettlement Awards celebrate Service leavers who successfully transition from military to civilian life, as well as the people and organisations that support them. The winners were announced at a recent awards ceremony at the Lowry Hotel Manchester.
