Lace up with team SSAFA for the Aberdeen Kiltwalk

SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity is calling on Aberdeen residents to lace up their trainers, don their kilts and sign up to take part in the Kiltwalk on Sunday 3 June.

Participants can choose from a 23, 15 or 6 mile walk through Aberdeen to raise money for the SSAFA Aberdeen branch, who provide support to veterans and their families in the area. From the funds raised the Hunter Foundation will add an extra 40%.

Fishing Fun

Another successful NFA fishing trip is complete and has provided, for many, a welcome morale boost and new friendships. It’s more than just a fishing trip, as one beneficiary said:

“I have come away feeling that whilst learning new skills and overcoming personal obstacles, I have also in a small way helped others & they in turn have done like wise. Friendships have been made & bonds forged to the extent that we have now organised a trip of our own, all with a military theme, as this is and always will be our safe area.”

18 countries, 374 hours and seven pairs of trainers later, RAF Corporal completes centenary challenge

Today, marathon man Corporal Jon Ward has completed his 100th official marathon in Gravesend, Kent, to mark the Royal Air Force centenary and support the RAF’s leading welfare charity, the RAF Benevolent Fund.

Since his challenge began, Jon, who is based at RAF Lossiemouth, has gone through seven pairs of trainers, racked up more than 374 hours of race running in 18 different countries and shaved more than two hours off his finish time.

Michael’s Island Peak climb

Climbing a 6000m Himalayan peak for Haig Housing Trust
Mike will be covering all costs myself and going with a group of fellow mountaineers on 12-29th April this year. He will endure some scrambling ridges,Technical climbs, Glacier crossings, a 300m ice wall to scale and a airy summit ridge, and a 300m abseil, all at altitude. we will have a support team of Sherpa’s and Yaks to carry our heavy gear to Base camp. Once completed all we have to do is wait for a weather window to fly out of Lukla airfield!!

Blesma Members set to appear at the Helicopter Museum’s fundraiser weekend

Military amputees Corie Mapp and Chris Ganley are set to be part of the Weston-Super-Mare Helicopter Museum’s ‘World at War Weekend’ over the weekend of the 7th and 8th of April, which will be raising money for charity Blesma, The Limbless Veterans.

Corie, a double amputee from Swindon who served in the Household Cavalry, lost both of his legs below the knee after the vehicle he was travelling in drove over an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Afghanistan. Since being injured in 2012, Corie has built himself an impressive career in Para-Bobsleigh, this year becoming World Number One.

Walking the first 1000 miles

Cobseo members have been previously advised that to mark both her recent retirement from the Royal Naval Reserve and the 2017 Centenary year of women’s service in the Royal Navy, Commander Jane Allen is undertaking a solo 5,500-mile charity walk around the coast of mainland Britain.

Starting and finishing at HMS Victory in Portsmouth, Jane’s walk aims to raise funds and awareness for two important Naval Charities – WRNS BT and RNRMC.

Local sight loss charity steps back into the 70s for Murder Mystery

Blind Veterans UK, the charity for blind and vision-impaired ex-Service men and women, is inviting local residents to join them for a 70s-themed Murder Mystery evening.

The evening, titled Murder on the Dance Floor, has been written by A Play Fitted Theatre Company and will take place on Friday 15 June at Chateau Rhianfa, Menai Bridge.

Victoria Beech, Regional Fundraiser for Blind Veterans UK, says: “We’re hoping that, as usual, guests make the most of the opportunity to get dressed up and fully embrace the occasion!

Pedal on the Prom to support your local military charity

Blind Veterans UK, the national charity for vision-impaired ex-Service men and women, is calling on local cyclists to join them for a leisurely cycle ride.

The event will take place on Saturday 19 May, with North Wales Coastal path set to play host to a 93.6km cycle ride. Participants are welcome to join the ride at various locations between Barkby Beach Prestatn and Llandudno Cenotaph.

Spinnaker Abseil Success

South West based charity Alabaré held a thrilling fundraiser on Sunday 25th March as 45 participant’s abseiled down the Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth.

The event helped to raise over £12,000 for Alabaré’s Homes for Veterans service as those taking part descended over 100 metres down the side of the iconic harbour side landmark.

With each of those taking part pledging to raise a minimum of £200, the event helped to raise vital funds for veterans who are homelessness or those at risk of being so.
