An expanding sailing charity for injured veterans has unveiled its plan to move into the world of competitive racing.
In partnership with Help for Heroes and The Endeavour Fund, Turn to Starboard will launch a new racing division in May from a new office at Haslar Marina in Gosport.
The Cornwall-based charity was set up three years ago and believes sailing has a therapeutic effect on those affected by military operations.

Stacey Whitworth, 44 and from Louth, will first be competing in the 100k Yorkshire, his second with the charity, on June 23-24. Shortly after that, on July 7- 8, Stacey will then be taking part in the 100k London to Brighton, his fourth with the charity.
Stacey explains that the original decision to take part in the events came from his own sight loss. He says: “In 2013 I was involved in an industrial accident where a machine blade went through my left eye.

The Programme provided five military athletes with knowledge that will prepare them for a future Games experience as a selected athlete, as well as inspire and excite potential future Paralympians in their ambitions. The group travelled to PyeongChang to gain an understanding of the scale and scope of the Games and to give exposure to some of the unique aspects of a Games, including the Village, the media spotlight and mixed zone, and transport systems.

Catherine Parfitt decided to support the veterans’ mental health charity after they helped Marc, who had post-traumatic stress disorder following tours of Afghanistan.
Catherine said “Marc was really struggling with his mental health and Combat Stress supported him. If he was still here he would be wanting to raise money to support their work.
