DMWS has been providing an independent and impartial medical welfare service for “Those who Serve” for more than 70 years. Our Welfare Officers offer practical and emotional support to ensure that no family goes through the worry of injury or illness alone.
We work with patients when they are receiving treatment on a clinical care pathway – when their medical needs are being met but when other issues, problems or social influences, may be distracting them from their recovery.
Read moreTuesday 25th April 2017 – Thousands of people will be turning out for the kiltwalk in Glasgow this weekend with more charities from throughout Scotland set to benefit than ever before.
One of those to benefit is the Royal Caledonian Education Trust, which is based in Edinburgh, and provides vital grant funding to children from veteran armed forces families who are struggling to make ends meet, and often living with mental health issues, ill health and disability.
Read moreTuesday 25 April – Two years on from the devastating Nepal earthquakes, a British charity is rushing to rehouse hundreds of Gurkha veterans and widows before the third monsoon since the disaster arrives.
The quakes left approximately 600,000 people across the country without a home. The majority are still living in rudimentary shelters constructed from corrugated metal sheets and the remains of former buildings.

Read moreA charity working with wounded, sick and injured veterans enabling them to move from social exclusion to sustained employment has received a major funding boost.
The Durham based charity, Finchale, has received a much-needed grant of £103,000 from Help for Heroes, a charity which is all about giving the very best support for life to the wounded veterans, servicemen and women and their families whose lives are changed by their injuries and illness.

Read moreCommander Stephen Farrington (pictured on the right), the Royal Naval Benevolent Trust’s (RNBT) Chief Executive since 2007, has handed over to Commander Rob Bosshardt. Stephen is retiring following a full naval career initially as a Shipwright and latterly as a Marine Engineer followed by a spell running a 2,000 MW coal fired power station before taking on the RNBT.

Read moreTotal Warrior, the pinnacle of obstacle course racing in the UK, has agreed a new charity partnership with Royal Caledonian Education Trust, Scotland’s armed forces children’s charity.
The extreme event, which promises participants “30 punishing obstacles and one free beer” is returning to Balgone Estate in East Lothian on 16th and 17th September for its third annual Scottish event. This year, the event will work alongside four official charity partners, each of which will aim to raise several thousand pounds for their respective causes.
