How Jaguar Land Rover Supports Veterans

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has a long history of supporting the British Military, and is committed to helping ex-Service personnel transition into successful civilian careers.

The car manufacturer signed the British Armed Forces Military Covenant in 2014, and was official partner of the first Invictus Games in London and subsequent events in Orlando (2016) and Toronto (2017).

JLR works with the Career Transition Partnership (CTP) to provide insight days and work experience opportunities for Service personnel.

The Captain James Wadsworth Challenge 2018: Tour De Troops and The Soldiers Run Pass

The Exciting Tour De Troops endurance event is back for 2018, after huge success in 2017. This charity event is the ultimate cycle ride, starting at Lands End and finishing at John O’Groats during a challenging five days. That event is followed by a second one, the Soldiers Run Pass in July. Together they make up the Captain James Wadsworth Challenge 2018.

Both events are open to military staff and civilians alike and are ideal for those looking for a mental and physical challenge which also encourages teamwork and esprit-de-corps between military personnel and civilians.

Antis and Thomas Masters: Announcing a new veteran and Bravehound companion dog partnership

Antis, a Bravehound Companion Dog, named after Antis DM a dog which flew with Czech airman Robert Bozdech during WW2 as part of the Czech Squadron of the RAF, was partnered with veteran Thomas Masters, at a ceremony at RAF Glasgow today, 22nd February. The ceremony was also attended by Bravehound’s new Patron, Author Damien Lewis, and the daughters of the late Robert Bozdech.

The original Antis DM was awarded the Dickin Medal for his service during the Second World War, the story of which was captured in a book, soon to be made into a film, by best-selling author Damien Lewis “War Dog – the dog who could fly”. Damien and the daughters of the late Robert Bozdech travelled to the home of RAF 602 reserves Squadron for the occasion.

Military charity invites residents to Artisan Craft Fair at Chateau Rhianfa

A military charity is inviting locals to attend an Artisan Craft Fair at Chateau Rhianfa.

Local artisans will be joining Blind Veterans UK, the charity for blind and vision-impaired ex-Service men and women, to exhibit a selection of unique crafts and products from around North Wales. The event will take place on both March 3 and March 4, from 11am to 4pm.

Bestselling crime and thriller writer helps raise £3,000 for local charity

International bestselling crime and thriller writer, Peter James, famous for the Brighton-based Roy Grace series, held a special ‘evening with’ in aid of Sussex charity, Care for Veterans, and helped to raise £3,000.

Mr James, author of 12 consecutive Sunday Times no.1s whose books have sold 19 million copies worldwide, took to the stage for almost an hour. He discussed his incredible career and shared fascinating, and often hilarious, stories and insights. He then answered questions from the audience, and signed books for waiting fans.

19th February 2018 – Book you place on the Deloitte Military Insight Day – London

Attendees will have the chance to find out what it’s like to work in a professional services firm with a particular focus on work in our public sector cyber security team.

Throughout the day attendees will have the chance to hear from and meet with veterans who have made the transition from various parts of the military. There will be tips on how to make the transition from service life, plus an opportunity to register interest in an assessment centre for roles in their Cyber team.

Stoll’s CEO Ed Tytherleigh takes on the London Marathon

The Chief Executive of Stoll, Ed Tytherleigh, is taking on the London Marathon for the first time this year to raise vital funds for the work of Stoll. Stoll is the leading provider of supported housing for vulnerable and disabled Veterans and helps around 600 Veterans a year.

Ed hopes to raise £10,000 to support Stoll’s work helping and housing homeless Veterans. Stoll offers a unique combination of housing and life-changing support, including employability, addiction support and outreach services.

29th March – Talk on Disaster in the Caribbean

Alabaré’s Wiltshire Ambassadors invite you to ‘Disaster in the Caribbean’; a fascinating talk by Lt Col Paul Maynard MA BSc RM on the humanitarian relief mission across the Caribbean in the wake of Hurricanes Irma and Jose. The evening will include an Introduction by Commodore Richard Lord CBE RN and be hosted by Commodore Miller CBE RN.

Lt Col Paul Maynard MA BSc assumed command of 40 Commando Royal Marines in March 2017. In September 2017, at just 12 hours’ notice, 40 Commando and Royal Engineers from 24 Commando Regiment were deployed to aid with the relief mission following the devastating effects of hurricanes across the Caribbean. He tells us how the events unfolded.
