OA and SaluteMyJob welcome Barclays to ‘Ex-Military in Management’ Virtual Careers Fair

The first ‘Ex-Military in Management’ Virtual Careers Fair, a joint collaboration between the Officers’ Association (OA) and SaluteMyJob, is delighted to have Barclays on board, who are able to offer job vacancies, recruitment advice and career insight to all registered participants.

Barclays joins Worldpay, Amazon and Interserve as key employers who recognise the value of recruiting from the talent pool of former military personnel for management roles within their organisations.

Oxfordshire Poppy Appeal raises a record-breaking £600,000

The Royal British Legion’s Oxfordshire Poppy Appeal in 2016/2017 raised an incredible total of £604,963.75 thanks to the generous support of those within the county.

During the past year the Oxfordshire fundraising team have marked the 100th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme, as well as launching the start of last year’s Poppy Appeal with the presentation of the first poppy to Vice Lord Lieutenant of Oxfordshire via a remote-controlled Cutlass robot at Vauxhall Barracks.

The Not Forgotten Association’s Annual Garden Party – Final Preparations

The NFA are busily preparing for their annual Summer Garden Party at Buckingham Palace, which will be hosted by HRH Prince Henry of Wales. His Royal Highness will meet veterans from several conflicts including (but not limited to) WW2, The Falklands War, Northern Ireland, Sierra Leone, Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Lord Mayor’s Big Curry Lunch 2017 tops £189,000

ABF The Soldiers’ Charity is delighted to announce that this year’s Lord Mayor’s Big Curry Lunch has raised an astounding £189,000. All the money raised will go directly to helping soldiers and veterans who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, and their families, and need support from the Army’s National Charity, ABF The Soldiers’ Charity.

Staff from military charity drive through 24 countries in five days to raise money for blind veterans

Two members of staff from a national military charity have driven through an incredible 24 countries in just five days. The funds raised will be going to the blind veterans their charity supports.

Chief of Staff, Nathan Muirhead and Head of Transport, Chris Kirk are both employees of Blind Veterans UK, the national charity for vision-impaierd ex-Service men and women.

The drive, which took place from Monday 8 – Friday 12 May, saw Nathan and Chris take in an incredible 24 countries, including but not limited to, France, Switzerland, Albania, Kosovo, Serbia and Turkey. Chris says: “It was a huge challenge.

A research seminar bringing world-renowned experts together to discuss sight loss will be taking place in London this week (24/05). The “Life Beyond Sight Loss” Seminar is the first in a series looking at various research and innovation ideas in relation to blind veterans.

The seminar is part of an exchange programme called Project Gemini where members of the US organisation the Blinded Veterans Association (BVA) will be visiting Britain to join Blind Veterans UK this week.

The Centre for Veterans’ Health is delighted to announce the opening of our new Veterans’ Pain Clinic

The Veterans Pain Clinic will be free of charge to all veterans who are able to provide Proof of Service. The costs are to be covered by the Hospitals’ Military Grants Fund charity.

The consultant is Dr Dominic Aldington. Having served in the Royal Army Medical Corps he was the Subject Matter Expert in Pain to the Surgeon General and was responsible for organising pain relief from the point of injury until a casualty left the service.

Felix Festival is back to raise vital funds for bomb disposal charity

The Felix Festival, a live music event that fundraises thousands of pounds for those affected by military and police careers in bomb disposal, is returning by popular demand on Saturday 16th September 2017 at Silchester in Hampshire.

The music event, organised on behalf of the charity Felix Fund which provides financial and wellbeing support to Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) personnel, is this year hoped to raise £30k — surpassing the £25k raised at Felix Festival 2015.
