International powerboat race announces charity partnership

An international powerboat race, which comes to Falmouth from June 29 to July 1, has announced a partnership with a sailing charity for injured veterans.

The new partnership will see the International Powerboat Race Club (IPRC) join together with Falmouth-based Turn to Starboard for the first time to raise funds for those affected by military operations.

After a day of testing and launching the powerboats at Port Pendennis Shipyard, drivers will make a splash on Saturday, 30 June as they race two laps of a course from Falmouth to Plymouth and back – a total of 144 miles.

Care after Combat/Burton Addiction Centre Partnership

In terms of managing problems of alcohol/substance misuse within the veteran population, whilst treatment services may be aware of veterans amongst their clients, they may not always feel fully competent to both recognise and therefore manage issues arising from previous military service, for example PTSD and poor transitioning.

We are therefore pleased to announce a new joint Care after Combat/Burton Addiction Centre partnership. Commencing in February 2018, this service will provide both residential education and treatment for veterans who have been involved in the criminal justice system.

UK Armed Forces Day Gala Dinner Charity Partner Announced

SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity is delighted to be announced as the Charity Partner of the Armed Forces Day Gala Dinner held by Conwy County Borough Council at Venue Cymru on Friday 29 June 2018.

SSAFA will be working with the council to support the Gala Dinner as well as other activities taking place in Conwy around Armed Forces Day.

This year, the National Armed Forces Day event will be held in Llandudno in Conwy County on Saturday 30 June 2018. The events will be a fantastic focal point for the UK to come together to acknowledge the hard work and sacrifice of those that serve.

Poppy Pekslot prepares for the PayPal Turkey Dash

The Royal British Legion is taking part in PayPal’s Turkey Dash, an animated charity campaign with Aardman and Channel 4. The Turkey Dash will see eight CGI charity turkeys take part in a prime time race, which will be broadcast on Channel 4 during the first ad break of Jamie and Jimmy’s Friday Night Feast, starting at 8pm on Friday 15th December.

Openreach go above and beyond for SSAFA veteran in need

Since striking up their partnership in 2015, Britain’s digital network business Openreach have raised nearly £100k for SSAFA, the UK’s oldest Armed Forces charity.

Graham Barnard, Openreach employee goes beyond the call of duty:
Dougie is a 92 year old veteran living in Southend, who has always been very proud of his appearance and has a bountiful collection of shoes and clothes. He lives in a warden controlled studio flat, so space is a premium and, up until recently, he didn’t have any bedroom furniture to store his clothing in. The lack of storage meant that Dougie’s flat was very cluttered, which made his home a trip hazard for him.

Aardman creates animated Turkey Dash for PayPal’s new Christmas campaign

Eight charities feature in an innovative digital race that encourages people to donate more to good causes this Christmas

PayPal has joined forces with Aardman and Channel 4 for a unique Christmas campaign that will boost donations to eight of the UK’s most loved charities. Turkey Dash will see an elite field of CGI turkeys – one representing each charity – undergo vigorous training powered by online donations from the charities’ supporters, climaxing in a prime time race broadcast on Channel 4 on Friday 15th December.

Partnership with Openreach raises £100k for SSAFA

Since announcing their partnership in 2015, Openreach, Britain’s digital network business, has now raised more than £100,000 for SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity. From taking part in the Big Brew Up to trekking the Icelandic terrain to raise money, the team has got behind the cause whole-heartedly. In addition, Openreach has hired nearly 2,500 veterans since 2011.

Already this year has recruited almost 300 trainee engineers from a Forces background. SSAFA continues to work with Openreach to support the Armed Forces community.

Nuclear Races partnership with Blesma, The Limbless Veterans goes from strength to strength

Representatives from the team at the Nuclear Races in Kelvedon Hatch, and military charity Blesma’s fundraising team met recently for a cheque presentation. The Nuclear Races donated £5 for every runner that took part in the Blesma Wave raising an excellent £925.

The total amount raised from the 185 Team Blesma runners over the event including the Nuclear Races was an incredible £15,721!

Following from this year’s success, the teams at Nuclear Races and Blesma are proud to announce a continuation into 2018, with the Blesma Wave of the Nuclear Rush weekend starting at 1240hrs on Saturday 19 May 2018.

RFEA partners with See Potential campaign

RFEA is pleased to partner with the Government’s See Potential campaign, focused on their Employing Military Veterans event this month which was introduced by Caroline Dineage, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Work and Pensions.

See Potential aims to help businesses fill skills gaps and diversify workforces by hiring people from disadvantaged groups including some military veterans. Sir Richard Branson, Deborah Meaden and Simon Cowell are See Potential ambassadors.

The Employing Military Veterans event was targeted at employers who do not currently recruit ex forces and showcased some of the employers who work closely with RFEA, demonstrating the value that they place on military experience within their workforce and how they operate their ex military recruitment.
