RNAS 1710 recently hosted two veterans and the Chairman of the Spirit of Normandy Trust at Southwick House the Allied Headquarters for the D Day Landings. Patrick Thomas and Wally Beall were able to visit the famous map room where the D Day map wall still portrays the situation at H Hour on D Day. They were both looked after very well my the Royal Navy and the Royal Military Police, who are now based at Southwick Park.

Andy Stowe, 61 and from Mansfield, was supported to do this by Specsavers stores including Crystal Peaks, which raised over £100. The money went towards sending blind veterans, including Andy, to march.
Andy marched with more than 100 other blind veterans supported by Blind Veterans UK, the national charity for vision-impaired ex-Service men and women.

The Prince of Wales laid a poppy wreath on behalf of the Queen, who watched for the first time from a Foreign Office balcony. She was joined by the Duke of Edinburgh and the Duchess of Cornwall. The Duke of Cambridge and Prince Harry also attended, alongside other members of the Royal Family.
Across the UK a two-minute silence was held, and poppy wreaths were laid at war memorials to remember those who died in conflict.

We are asking other military charities to sponsor a veteran or their family to return to the island.
The operation was a tri-force operation, with Army, Navy and RAF personnel involved. The return will include a dedication of a new memorial on the island to the veterans who gave so much to ensure that the UK was a Nuclear power.
A blind veteran from Lancashire has marched at the Cenotaph in London on Remembrance Sunday (12/11) with the charity Blind Veterans UK.
Graham Ward, 59 and from Fleetwood, marched with more than 100 other blind veterans supported by Blind Veterans UK, the national charity for vision-impaired ex-Service men and women.
Graham says: “This was my second year marching and it was very different to my first time. Not only did I know a lot more people this year, but I was able to attend with my partner and fellow blind veteran, Lindy, who I actually met through the charity, so it was a special day for us both.

John Robinson, 51 and from Connah’s Quay, marched with more than 100 other blind veterans supported by Blind Veterans UK, the national charity for vision-impaired ex-Service men and women. He marched only one week after being discharged from hospital.
John, who has suffered a heart attack before, began to feel unwell and felt chest pains on Sunday 29 October. He says: “It started to get really quite bad so an ambulance was called and took me to the Countess of Chester Hospital. It was there that they confirmed that I had had a heart attack.”
