Read moreHRH The Princess Royal officially opened the exhibition ‘Pioneers to Professionals: Women and the Royal Navy’ at the National Museum of the Royal Navy in Portsmouth’s Historic Dockyard on the afternoon of 8 March 2017, followed by the launch of the WRNS100 centenary celebrations.
‘Pioneers to Professionals’ champions the early pioneers who fought for equal rights in the Royal Navy and tells the story of how women’s role and service in the navy has changed.
Read moreOn 16 March, at St John’s Place Lower Bemerton Salisbury, the Wiltshire Alabaré Ambassadors held a fundraising evening entitled “Personal Reflections from the Falklands War and its Aftermath”. Overall nearly 120 were present and in excess of £2,500 was raised for Alabaré.
The official guests were the Mayor of Salisbury, Derek Brown OBE, Brigadier Hodder, CEO of the Wessex Reserve Forces Cadets Association, Wing Commander Vincent Thomas, Second in Command at Boscombe Down and Major Richard Rimmington MBE, Royal Logistic Corp. The major sponsors were the Mark Allen Group, Chemring Countermeasures and Our Wilton.

Read moreRAF veteran Roger Mountjoy and his wife have holidayed in Breckenridge, Colorado every winter for the last 20 years. On the last day of their skiing holiday in 2016 they happened to meet the NFA’s group also returning home after a week’s skiing.
Despite a full 30 year career in Royal Air Force, Roger had never heard of the charity, but he soon got in touch to see if his knowledge of Breckenridge’s skiing trails could be of help to the NFA in future.

On March 16th, senior pupils from George Watson’s College in Edinburgh took part in a special military marching house competition to raise awareness for Red, White & Blue Day, a national fundraising day for the UK’s main service charities that the School has supported regularly over the last few years. The competition saw the pupils battle against each another in their respective school Houses, with the winners being chosen by the Garrison Sergeant Major of the Edinburgh Army Garrison.

This also marks an exciting new venture for The Cheltenham Trust by using its five venues, including the Town Hall, to bring arts displays to unexpected places to support community projects. Located in the historic spa well area of the Town Hall where the spa waters were once pumped to the surface for its restorative properties, the poppies will stand from floor ceiling filled by the natural light of the stairwell.

Read more96 year old Squadron Leader Allan Scott DFM returned to Biggin Hill earlier this month and took to the skies in a beloved Spitfire where he performed a flypast and victory roll.
Allan originally flew from Biggin Hill in 1941, towards the end of the Battle of Britain. Following his time there, he was posted to Malta, which was under siege with continual raids by the Luftwaffe and the RAF were battling against heavy odds. He flew his Spitfire off HMS Eagle to the island on 21st July 1942, where he saw much action – including a victory during Operation Pedestal on 13th August.
