Fundraising starts small

(Andover, 8 June 2017) Owned and managed by Waitrose, the Longstock Park Water Garden near Andover in Hampshire is one of the finest water gardens in the world. It opens its gates to the public on selected dates in support of a nominated charity. We are very grateful to John Lewis Partnership to have chosen DMWS as the selected charity last Sunday.

With the garden attracting visitors from near and far, it provided a perfect opportunity to promote the Charity’s work to a wider audience.

Mutual Support – Cycling 100 miles

In early February 17 my brother asked me if I would accompany him on a high profile ‘Sportive cycle event’ where he and some friends intend to raise awareness for BLESMA, knowing I was not very experienced at cycling I hesitantly agreed. He then told me the ride was 100 miles through the Lincolnshire countryside and will take place on the 6 May so I would need to get my skates on and start training. My initial thoughts were, ‘nightmare, what have I let myself in for’. Training for the event was always going to be difficult, balancing it with work and the inclement weather, more importantly, I didn’t have a bike. My son generously loaned me his ‘Time Trials bike’, I bought a Turbo Trainer and set them up in my conservatory where I could get used to the bike without embarrassing myself on the roads and for somewhere to train during the bad weather.

6th July – Coffee and cake day with local military charity

Worcester residents are invited to attend a morning of coffee and cake hosted by Blind Veterans UK, the charity for vision-impaired ex-Service men and women.

Victoria Beech, Regional Fundraiser, says: “As an organisation we are very aware that there are many more veterans out there that could benefit from our support. They just need to know that we are here for them. This event will be a great way to raise our profile in the Worcester area, ensuring that no vision-impaired veteran in the area is forced to battle sight loss alone.”
