During this time he was deployed to Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan and was awarded many decorations, including a Queen’s Commendation for Bravery. Les’s service took its toll on him; he was involved in four separate explosions and in 2009 he was injured by an IED, causing him to lose the sight in one eye.

Big Yellow Manager Ed Taylor said: “We heard that the Royal British Legion in Sheffield was struggling to find storage space so we decided to see if we could help. We spoke to them about their requirements and we’ve been able to provide them with some really good space at zero cost to the charity.”

As a writer, he’s had plenty of experience in putting on similarly theatrical events. Marie Manning, 38 and originally from Llanfairfechan, Wales, completed the world famous course in six hours and 37 minutes. She says: “It was the toughest yet most rewarding thing I’ve ever done in my life. It felt amazing having people shout in support of the charity and helped me remember that I was doing some good while putting my body through all that pain!”
