14th February 2018: OA Event – Operations Management Workshop – Manchester

The skills and experience required to manage operations are common within the Forces and many individuals look to transition into a new career within Operations Management when they leave; but what does this look like in a civilian context?

Kindly hosted by Barclays, this workshop will explore civilian careers within operational management, examining the similarities and differences between civilian operational roles, and those within the Forces. You will have the opportunity to hear from some fantastic, insightful speakers, who already work in operations management, offering advice on factors to consider when entering a particular sector.

Extension to application deadline for the Forces Media Academy

Due to an increase in the number of applications for the Forces Media Academy’s Media Production Course, the FMA is now accepting applications until Friday 9th February.

The course is a free one-year Higher National Certificate (HNC) starting in September, and is run at SSVC’s headquarters in Buckinghamshire.

Each student also receives an £18,000 bursary from the Forces Media Academy’s principal charity partner, The Royal British Legion.

Appointment of new CEO, Paul Gaffney, Defence Medical Welfare Service

DMWS is delighted to announce the appointment of Paul Gaffney as the new CEO of the Defence Medical Welfare Service, replacing Nicky Murdoch MBE who will be stepping down after six remarkably successful years as CEO.

Paul, who has been with DMWS for the past two and a half years, has taken over as CEO as of 1st of December 2017. He brings commitment, dedication, commercial and business skills to the organisation at a time of change and growth. He will be driving the company to the next level, building on the excellent growth and momentum achieved under Nicky’s leadership.

DMWS Training Manager wins MHFA Award

On Wednesday (November 15, 2017) DMWS Training Manager, Mark Perryman, received the Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Award as ‘Most Supportive MHFA Friend’. We congratulate Mark on this well-deserved achievement. Over the past four years, Mark has passionately delivered 50 Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) courses and single-handedly trained over 700 people; which in turn will help thousands of others. Unfortunately he was unable to attend the event to collect his award, as he was delivering an MHFA course – which highlights his commitment to MHFA. Danielle Cowap, DMWS Training Manager collected the award on his behalf.
