Help for Heroes Hidden Wounds – support for Ex-Service Personnel

Former Corporal, Daniel Grobler (who lives in Newbury, Berkshire), is encouraging other Ex-Service Personnel to get support if they feel they’re suffering from mental health issues, as we draw closer to ‘Blue Monday’.

Blue Monday (Monday 16th January 2017) is a name given to a day in January reported to be the most depressing day of the year, and for many former military personnel this will be a tough time of the New Year.

New Forces in Mind Trust award: King’s College London to compare the mental health and treatment needs of UK veterans with those of the general population

A grant of £157,384 has been awarded to King’s College London (KCL), in partnership with the University of Liverpool, to evaluate whether the mental health and treatment needs of UK veterans, and their treatment outcomes, differ from those of the general population.

Diving rehabilitation charity Deptherapy is pleased to announce its membership of the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO).

This announcement comes at the start of an exciting year for Deptherapy in which the charity will introduce more injured ex-servicemen to the benefits of diving than ever before.

Seafarers UK donates £19,000 to disabled Naval Veterans at QAHH

A charity that helps people in the maritime community has donated £19,000 to The Queen Alexandra Hospital Home (QAHH) in Worthing, which provides care and rehabilitation to ex-Servicemen and women.

Seafarers UK has donated the money towards physiotherapy for the former seafaring residents who live at QAHH. This donation will help these veterans to increase their mobility and independence throughout 2017.

Upcoming dates of RBLI’s employment support programme for the spouses and partners of Armed Forces personnel

LifeWorks Families is an employment support course tailored specifically to the spouses and partners of any serving or recently discharged member of the British Armed Forces, including Reserves. It aims to help those on the course move into sustained employment, by giving them the enhanced CV and interview skills needed for finding work. Everyone who attends a course will receive six months of remote ‘reachback’ to help them in their search for employment.

RBLI seeks wounded veterans to make new apartments into homes

Royal British Legion Industries (RBLI) is seeking veterans who suffer from a disability, illness or injury for their brand new specialised apartments which are due to be completed in spring 2017.

The apartments, situated on Hermitage Lane near Maidstone, just outside the Royal British Legion Village, will be individually adapted for ex-service personnel who are homeless, at risk of homelessness or have specific requirements due to health issues. As the construction nears completion, RBLI is looking to find Veterans who can make the apartments their home.

Royal British Legion Industries’ LifeWorks programme is a series of successful employment support courses designed to help unemployed Armed Forces Veterans into work. It is available to any Veteran, of any rank and from any background, regardless of how long ago they served. It aims to help them gain sustained employment and rebuild their lives following their service by giving them the enhanced CV and interview skills needed for finding work in civilian life. Those who attend a course will receive 12 months of remote ‘reachback’ support to help them with their job search.
